Hudy comm lathe cutter?
#1

I recently bought a brand spanking new Hudy comm lathe, just yesterday I removed the shrink wrap packing and realized there was no cutter?
Is this the way they come?
Would there be a better alternative then the $167.00 diamond cutter from Hudy, OR is this the best option?
Still learning...
Thank you,
Brian

You can buy a diamond bit on eBay for $50.00.

It works in the Hudy. Got one in mine and it works fine.
Thanks,

Yeah, I noticed this also... but it does have the name Hudy in item description.
Just got word from an inside source also that says the company that makes these diamond bits is located in the next city over from where I live. Waiting to hear back from that person on the exact name of the company, and was told it would probably be even cheaper then this one listed on eBay!
What gets me is when you look in the Hudy book it doesn't say in there that it doesn't come with a bit!

I would get the one for capped coms; that way if you ever start to race Euro or opens you're set and the resale will be higher.
Or you can buy my Hudy diamond bit because I need one for capped comms.

The bit that you show the link for in your post will NOT work in a Hudy comm lathe.
The Hudy takes an AL-4 bit, or a bit that cuts from right to left. The bit in the link that you put up is an AR-4 bit, that cuts from left to right. That particular vendor does carry the AL-4 diamond bits for the Hudy, as I brought one from him earlier this year. You might just have to email him and see if he has them in stock, usually he has both types on hand.
You can also get a very, very nice quality diamond bit for the Hudy from McMaster-Carr supply. Just go to McMaster-Carr's website and do a search for AL-4 diamond bit. It's a little more than what this guy on eBay sells for, but its still half the price of the Hudy bit and much better quality. I'll never buy another Hudy bit; they are way overpriced.
But again, you are looking for an AL-4 bit to work in a Hudy lathe.

Brian,What gets me when you look in the Hudy book it doesn't say in there that it doesn't come with a bit!
It depends where you get it. I use Scott at PCH and in his listing it does say that it doesn't come with bit. Kinda dumb to sell a lathe with no bit, don't you think? But then again, after seeing what they charge for a bit, I think I'd rather shop around... LOL.
Let me know how you make out as I'm in the market for a new bit as well, but I don't want to have to pimp out Jennie to get one.

They have the 60 degree (Style E) that will do capped comms as well as normal comms for a really good price.

Sure wished you would have told me this at 8:00o'clock yesterday morning,I went with the AR-4 and NOW the Mike has brought it to my attention that it won't work! Not sure IF the seller will exchange for the correct one or not? It's only an e-mail away,we'll see.
Thanks for all the help my Friends.

I'm looking at getting the diamond bit from J&M Diamond Tool.
They have the 60 degree (Style E) that will do capped comms as well as normal comms for a really good price.
Gary, How do you know what one to get? They have a bunch of different one's to choose from. I just checked out the page, and the prices are very good.
