All my tires are drying up! :laugh2: I know you should take them of the ride but I'm lazy at times! I been told to store them in their little bottles and stuff them in the fridge, anyway I know better, but now I'm stuck with a bunch of dried up tires? :shok:
Is there any treatment or some magic liquid that can bring them back to life?

Nesta,
If their not real bad, sometimes you can use good old tiger milk on them and they will soften up ;)
I've also heard that STP rubbed in real good will work, but I've never tried it.

I know some of the old timers have a few good tricks, maybe they'll chime in.

I'm gonna try something we used to use when I raced 1/12th electric R/C on a couple of older tires (Mille Miglia) that I want to try to revive: sunblock. I'll let you know how it comes out when I "get around to it."

If you'd rather not wait for my results, and you have a couple of tires you could experiment on, put them on an axle, put a couple of small drops of sunblock on each tire, and massage it in with both hands, turning the tires as you go.

It will feel slick at first, then the more you rub them, they should get soft and sticky.

It worked great on R/C tires, and helped traction, too.

Nesta,

SPF 45 or higher sunblock works well if the tires are not too far gone. Otherwise Paragon Ground Effects (http://www3.towerhob...0001p?&I=LXDT08) will bring back most tires. You have to be careful using either of these products as they will ruin you slot car body - make sure to apply with the body off, wipe off any excess and allow to dry before running on the track.

I'm sure they guys at BPR will be very pleased to know you are going to start putting strange chemical potions on your tires ;) Marvel Mystery Oil and Anti-Freeze works good at a 50/50 ratio.

:secret: I put some mineral oil on the tires and then put the chassis with tires into a Zip lock bag and it is good to go until the next time.

Nesta ask TONY P,for either ZIP GRIP or TIRE TWEAK,both by Trinity,
they are the best conditioners out today, but be careful with Zip Grip if it gets on the body it'll eat the paint,
Tire Tweak doesn't harm anything and softens old or new tires excellent.
next time youre at BPR ask me i'll loan ya some,,

  • Treat them.
  • Put them is a tire bottle or zip lock bag (I use a zip lock bag and remove the air)
  • Put them in the fridge.
  • They will keep for a LONG time that way.

But first experiment with the various potions with different rubber compounds and keep notes.

I've used ALL of the above (except the mystery oil one) and found that the different lotions and liquids work differently on the different types of rubber.

Good luck buddy...

Are you doing the thurs 1/32 class? If so, once I get a car ready maybe we can carpool to BP?

Nesta,
with all the natural rubbber tires we run in RETRO Racing this is a common occurance. Storing your tires in the frige will only delay the effect.
You probably have the stuff to help rejuvanate your tires, if the tires are oversized diameter, just retrue them and they should be like brand new or better.
if they are close to racing diameter, clean them with a good solvent IE Mineral spirts, the solvent should remove the crust, then rub some of barney's love lotion or camen stick-it red into them and this should bring them back to life.

I just would like to say thanks to all of you guys and I been trying it all, from love lotion to Zip Grip that I use all the time! ;)
But Sam's suggestion made me think for a while, not cheap that's for sure but who else have used this product?

this was mine idea too ...use the car and the problem will go away...
all of my car is going almost on the rear gear now ,,so its time for me to get some new rubber before crismas..:laugh2:
that tires are old is my least problem ...i want them too last longer ...
but i only hawe like 10 pair of tiers and i hawe decided that its smarter to by new when they are over and done

i dont understand the point of hawing a big stock of things :wub:they gets older sinking in value and takes up space..

we plan too only hawe like 3 pickups,6 bruches ,some neeadel pins and one or too sets of tires and a few gears in our boxes ...the rest can be in a store for sale ...
If cars were built to fly... they will have wings...

Nesta, if you want to buy something that is ready to use the only thing I can think of is fan belt dressing, this stuff use to be sold in autoparts stores.
the caikleen they use on their RC cars have ingredients that are real close to the stuff I told you to use in the previous post.

belt dressing is much less expensive than the caikleen.

Nesta,

May I offer a tip now that you have got soft tires? Buy a box of zip-loc baggies. When you're done racing, or doing whatever, with your car, put in a baggie and zip it shut. I've found this works as well as putting the tires back in their tubes.

I am not a doctor, but I played one as a child with the girl next door.

Way to go Nesta. You now have the best thing to make your tires just right. I always true my tires while at the track on race day, so then you have what we call fresh cuts. It doesn't get any better than that.
I don't know how far you have to disassemble the machine to replace the grinding wheel. when you buy a new machine you get all of the allen wrenches that fit the screws on it. Good Luck

good Racing to You!
