Thursday morning and the racers are starting to gather, thrash, and practice.

r1.jpg

R to L, Larry Mattingly, Mike Iles (I think... Max and Mike are twins, with Mike having a cast on his right forearm but I can't see it in this shot!), Ralph Thorne, Big Mike Iles, Ron "Largenmouth" Hershamn, James Merriman, and Chris Barnes.

r2.jpg

Big Mike Iles looks happy to be here, doesn't he? To his left is WIlliam McPherson and Matt Bruce. Eric Balicki leans away from the camera in the distance and Rande Marshall is visible back near the bank.

r3.jpg

R to L, Chris Radisich, Chris Barnes (leaning over), Mike Iles, Ralph Thorne, Ken Green, and Howie Ursaner.

r4.jpg

We haven't seen this much: Howie working on cars that he built himself!

Jay Kisling preaching the gospel to Mike McMasters, Chris Radisich, and Rick Bennardo.

The Chicago crew is now here.

Mike Swiss and "Manta" Ray Price just set up their pit. Looks like Jackie sent some homemade goodies in that green-topped container.

r12.jpg

I'm catching some grief for bringing my little computer, but Vince Del Viscio brought his entire workbench!

r13.jpg

Old slot racers often talk about how the tracks were so busy back in the day that you had to wait for lanes. At the R4, that situation still exists!

L to R, James Merriman, Chris Barnes, John Streisguth, Ken Green, Ralph Thorne, Jay Guard, Larry Mattingly, and Mike McMasters.

Great to see the Southeast well represented - not only by the Cheater himself, but also by Jay, Chris, James, and Ralph. Hope I didn't miss anyone.

Good luck to all racers, especially the SERRA™ guys.

And thanks for the pics, Greg. There are many of us out here who wish we could attend, too.

Greg how about a couple of wide angle shots of the raceway from different angles so we can see how big it is... I am sure you are using the wide angle lens to capture the driver pictures.

Mike McMasters says 13.6v nominal, from a pair of custom power supplies originally built to power the car stereo wall at an H. H. Gregg store!

When I checked it with my Third Eye a couple weeks ago at the ORS race it was 14.2 volts on the read-out.

Now what do you do in that case, do you gear your car according to voltage? To try and keep the motor running cool and consistent?

In Mike McMaster's defense, he did tell me that he had not checked it in a good while.
