Thanks, guys! smile.gif

Only on a drag strip with 36 volts will that Kemtron outrun a Pittman. Try a Pittman 65X (3 volt arm) motor next, if ya wanna "padlock motor" that hauls the mail.

Hi Oscar,

I'm working on a DC-65 powered car now. The lowest voltage arm I've found so far is 6 volts, so that's what I'm using.

But, you'll see unsure.gif . The Might Kemtron with the new gearing will "haul the beans" and get the Pittman 705/6... MAYBE! :laugh2: .

Rick,

I'm raggin on ya a bit, beautiful build.

In the ORIGINAL OLD days when I first started racing ('60-63) the Pittmans and various other padlock or inline 5-7 pole motors were the "stuff", with those type of chassis that youve built, I had many Pittmans - 196B, 65A&B, and 704-5-6. A lot of the guys where I played/raced as a kid (Western Speedway/Model Raceway, Gardena CA) used these until the Russkit appeared...

Pittmans were always faster than Kemtrons in road racing... wink.gif

I think the taller gear will help it considerably... it should go at least as fast as the Pittman 706 IMO.

Beautiful job, Rick!

Hey Rick, did you ever change the gear ratio? Did it outrun the Pittman?

I'm surprised too - have always seen the lower voltage Kemtrons as definitely faster than the Pittman 706... and the Ram XL-500 may be a bit faster yet...

Every time you refer to one of your old builds I wind up reading the whole thing again, and once again admiring the heck out of your work. For a guy who says he doesn't like painting, you sure know how to give your cars "the look"!

Hi Don,

Yes, I did change to a 3.5:1 gearing and it did outrun the Pittman. On Eddie's blue King I think 3:1 might even be better. For my home track I'm going to leave it where it is.

... and the Ram XL-500 may be a bit faster yet...

I think so too, Don. The XL500 motor below really buzzes up!  :D

The finished motor:

Now, what in the heck am I going to put it in? biggrin.gif

Onward!
