I believe I have a Cox Chaparral mag frame 2E; can anyone verify this? If so, these are almost impossible to come by in this condition, correct?

Thanks in advance!

Looks like nice car/correct chassis, is desirable car, missing wing actuator parts, wires are not correct on motor, missing driver man...

Now if it was sealed in the original box, then you'd really have something that is almost impossible to find.

Yeah, I wish; that would be nice.

Do you know where I can get a driver and wing actuator parts?

I did not know they used the "NASCAR" motor in them... did they?

Hey, Dokk, how are you doing and can you fill us in on this?

I remember buying and racing the first Cox Chaparral. I think that it was a 2C model. I recall that the magnesium chassis had a drop arm and I could pull wheelies! :D

Hi Dan,

Cox never made a "2C". Cox made a Chaparral 2, referred years later as a "2A" to differentiate the 1964 version with flat sides and narrower, Lotus-like wheels. The Cox model is patterned after the 1965 Sebring Twelve-Hour cars, with Coke-bottle shaped bodies and the wider GM-pattern, patented, cast two-piece "wire" wheels that were later outrageously copied by the German BBS company and for which they took full design credit.

The large, 36D-size NASCAR motor was the only motor used in the Cox Chaparral 2E model using the magnesium frame. While there used to be reproductions of the molded plastic part that is fitted on top of the motor, I do not believe that any are currently available from anyone, and that also goes for the wire. While the wire is easy to reproduce, the molded plastic bit is a lot more difficult.

Lead wires on all Cox NASCAR motors are vinyl coated blue and red wires of 1mm diameter.

Is it just a white plastic piece that connects to the top of the motor? Does anyone have a picture of what it looks like?

It is a white plastic piece and Jean-Michel did a nice thread on the build up and restoration of one of those cars. He even made the actuator himself.

Click the link and check it out for yourself. :)

Something about that body does not look quite right to me, a bit resin-looking maybe. Could just be the light.

I didn't see any resin work. The car was never run, as with most of the collection I have, so most of the cars are in mint condition.

"Almost impossible", you say?

Hummm...

And I've restored three others.

But I admit they are rare! Posted Image

There's a seller with three different Cox Chaparrals listed... the 2E looks very nice with the box, is missing wing actuator wire, not sure but I think I see it stuck to the magnet of the other 2D he has listed.

Good eye, indeed it is the correct wire.

But the cars are OK at best, not such great condition.
