Looks like slot racing (at least this segment) may be a trend setter...

UNLIMITED RACING CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES LAUNCHED
As 'Heritage Series' for American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patron
2011-09-16

The American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón today announced its association with the Unlimited Racing Championship (URC) as the new “Heritage Series” for the 2012 season and beyond. The URC will feature identically built NuArt CanAm cars reminiscent of the “glory days” of the Canadian-American Challenge Cup (Can-Am) from the 1960-70s.

The NuArt CanAm cars are purpose-built from the ground up and engineered for safety, aerodynamics, driver comfort and speed. These magnificent cars feature spectacular 700+ horsepower, big-block V8 motors and state-of-the-art aerospace quality components with an emphasis on safety.

“The American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón is thrilled to welcome the Unlimited Racing Championship, which will be joining a number of ALMS events in 2012,” said Scott Atherton, President and CEO of the ALMS. “This ‘Heritage Series’ will provide more variety and a modern day link to the past for our many fans next year. The new initiative establishes a direct connection to the history of sports car racing in North America with the sights and sounds of an era of extreme speed and power – the revolutionary Can-Am Challenge Cup of the 1960s and '70s. The spectacle of these massively powerful racing machines with a bridge to the past of American racing will surely evoke many fond memories for some and attract new fans as well.”

“This project was years in the making,” said Richard Nauert, founder of the Unlimited Racing Championship and designer of the NuArt CanAm car. “We analyzed the original Can-Am cars, remaining true to the visual, as well as spiritual concept. Components like big-block engines, 12-inch steel brakes, and Can-Am intakes were just some of the historical elements we maintained in the NuArt CanAm car. Despite the tribute to the originals cars, at the same time, they are particularly relevant to the American Le Mans Series because we loaded them with modern technology. The technology is specifically to make them safe, have longevity, and be flexible for a wide range of driver skills.”

The thrilling new Unlimited Racing Championship Series will feature identically prepared NuArt CanAm cars, racing against one another on original historical Can-Am circuits around North America. The format includes eight races; two 30-minute races on four American Le Mans Series circuits beginning in 2012. Cars will be fully prepped for the owner/driver by the URC series organizer and ready to race at each venue. Initial cars are offered at $485,000, along with a walk down memory lane of a legendary tradition, while also creating a new era of racing memories.

Well, at least that part will make them relevent to current Retro slot cars... ;)

That's kind of how I read it. Same bodies. If so it is just another spec class. Boring. To me the appeal of the Can-Am was the different designs being developed to try and knock McLaren off the throne.

If they are look alike, that would be boring (i.e. IMSA Daytona series). Only time will will.

It would be cool to have spec motors and chassis but leave bodies open that must conform to the original Can-Am rules. That way the cars would have some character, but again once a wind tunnel gets involved they would probably all look the same anyway. Damn.

They could have different bodies that would be aerodynamically balanced to give the same amount of drag and down force. Pretty easy with modern technology... I can see Lola, McLaren, Ti22 bodies, even a Chaparral 2G or two in there... that would be cool.

Note how they differentiate the spelling of Can-Am in the press release. They refer to the original series as Can-Am and the new retro series as CanAm.

A 'Heritage Series' for American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patron

Well, maybe not but maybe they TOO will argue in circles about what is or is not retro enough for their series. :laugh2:

Nah...

They wrote a 'specific' set of rules outlining WHAT they wanted for the series... :laugh2:

Just another dirty trick to stop history writing itself and creating a "white-wash" by the McLarens. :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

I recall some guy named Yunick who broke a lot of written rules. Sometimes you just want to beat 'The Man'. LOL.

I'll merge the threads in a few moments...

I saw these cars at the Petit LeMans at Road Atlanta last month. NuArt had a tent and a display there. Too cool...

Me bought? You gotta be kidding.

I'd love to drive one, though. But it is so far out of my price range, I don't even think about it.

I can probably get Dick to let me take a spin in his Ferrari 360 Spyder, if I beg a little.

You must have me confused with Dokk. He gets to drive all the really cool stuff.

Did I mention that I don't care what color it is. :laugh2: How about three laps, I'll buy the fuel?

Cheater, how the heck could I confuse you with Dokk? :sarcastic:
