Here's where it all started:

With the help from my great friends, I have a head start on this project.

A nice armature and comm cooler from dc-65x, a perfect body from Jairus Watson, and lots of correct advice.

I know several builders have already done a Lee Gilbert replica. I applaud their efforts, and thank them for paving the way. This one is mine. I hope you enjoy the long hard trip, and appreciate my effort. Lee had Dona Holloway for inspiration. I wish she was here now :) .

Special thanks to Bill of NH for gifting me copies of the original article. :sun_bespectacled:

IMHO, the greatest slot car "How to" article of all time, or certainly at the time.

As far as the suds pic, I wonder if Lee was inspired by the album cover of Herb Alpert's "Whipped Cream & Other Delights".

This is cool.

I remember the article from when I was a kid.

Good luck, and thanks.

Bill,

No, we don't at the present time. Perhaps we need a place like that.

What do other folks think?

Goog point, Pablo. No real need to duplicate Steve's fine efforts methinks.

That's fine, but I know I have a lot of articles that he doesn't have. I am sure that many of us also do...

Is Steve actively collecting articles for inclusion on his website??

Pablo,

Good luck on the build. I built my first chassis according to the gospel of Lee Gilbert, and it done ruined me for life! :laugh2:

A couple of years ago I asked Lee about Dona (up to that time I assumed he had some sort of relationship with her) and Lee said she was a model that the magazine brought in for the article and that he knew nothing about her.
That's thirty minutes away. I'll be there in ten.

Since there seems to be so much interest in Dona, maybe I'll find her and ask her to autograph my chassis.
How about a Lee Gilbert autograph on the starboard pan, and Dona on the port pan?

This car is going to be MINE, not for sale at any price. Since several key parts were gifted from my good friends, I could never accept any profit from it. It will sit in my vintage wood box. As a monument to all my helpful friends, dc-65x, Jairus, Bill of NH, PdL, the list is growing...

Since Tom Hansen made the suds, I'll bet he knows where she is.

TSR, as far as your comment that she is a grandma by now, I'm sure she is a very lovely 60 year old woman.

No, I don't know where she went with her life. I only met and saw her a couple of times.

There is a slightly different story that I remember. And in that time frame and the group that hung around Lee's off-campus apartment by the college, some tragedy, too.

Car Model supplies the sex. Tom has the tragedy. An off-campus apartment setting. Some out of charcter language by a moderator no less.

Hollywood might end up with this thread.
