Hello,

I am gearing up a Womp and didn't really see a place to talk about them. So I thought I would start some Womp Talk.

But I like pictures also so here are two of my Womps. One is my new Corvette body with badly-painted shut lines and one is a old pre-painted body from Parma complete with badly hand-painted shut lines.

I hope other people enjoy Womps also.

I love womps. We raced them for a bit and then the enthusiasm died out. If I had a track, I'd run womps and FCRs at least one night a week. Cheap, easy and fun, I think they're perfect for newbies and tired old farts, too.

I've raced everything and I LOVE womps too...We race womps almost every week and it's our most popular class at NOMAD

I raced Womps in the 80's when I was racing USRA wing cars in So-Cal.

Some would ask me why I raced womps during the sunday family races. I told them the events kept my reflexes sharp for my monthly wing races.

Other's asked if I thought it was fair, racing against the novice racers. I just let them drive my Champion Thumper, and asked them how it stacked up with thier two-piece anglewinder SuperWomps.

They asked no more

With FCR being the Big Brother to the Womp, too bad the Nat'l FCR Series doesn't have a Womp class.

Womp class at the Nats would be great, everyone has one the turn out would be big.
It will never happen cost is to low.
First race I went to in 82 was a womp race at bellmore raceway the place was packed.

Have you got pictures of your cut up Womps? Its interesting to see what people make from them.

We had a Womp racing series in the 80's where the body played a factor, and concourse was worth points towards the championship. We devided the fleet of available bodys into categories and ran a different category each week. The categories were something like "Nascar", "Sports Cars", "Box Cars" (top-heavy bodies), "GT cars", "Wing Cars", etc. The track sold a lot of bodies and the painters had a lot of work during that series

The Womps we raced had the Johnson 16d's. We raced on the old American Red track. They had their heyday back in the early 80's.

The Womp became the basis for the scratchbuilt 1/32 scale which is 2.5 " wide. Original 1/32 was 2.25" wide.

We ran them on buzzy's American Yellow, Black (with indy car body) blue king.
They had to be 2 1/2 wide.
The johnson 16D motors that you raced did they have a bearing?

These were Mabuchi's under the Johnson name from what I remember. I can't imagine "real" BB's in those motors. They had stock oilite bearings.

I'll be building 4 1/32 womps for my home track with hot rod bodies! Gonna put FK motors in them--probably TSR home motors or Falcon II's. Should be fun and give the track another IROC class to race with!! My home track is my avatar! 70' four lane with 4" lane spacing--even 1/24 cars can fit.

I've run womps with Falcons,,,they handle better.

Most of our racing divisions are based on the Womp chassis. We have a great time and very close racing racing on a flat 6 lane oval. There are still lots of bodies available from a variety of manufacturers - Toytech, Rhino, MonkeyWerx, Champion, Parma, etc.

Steve carries a great selection of Womp bodies. The Cavalier modifieds are next for me.

Thanks Matt. Someone mentioned motors earlier... this is a key point. Since we have a relatively small track, we do not use 16D motors. There are a wide variety of motors for ten dollars or less that are very good - Pro Track Cheetah II, JK Falcon 2 & 4, Slick 7 Mini Brute, etc. We use 25 ohm controllers with these motors and have a lot of throttle response all the way through. Interestingly, we have a $5 motor rated at 21,000 rpm that we spec in two divisions. The divisions that have motor options can turn around 23 laps in minute. Cars with the slower motor turn 20 - 22 laps in one minute and are much easier to drive. Here's another option for Womps... lots of circle tracks in the 70's and early 80's ran compact cars with big fat tires:


Compact cars like the Nova, Camaro, early Mustangs, Maverick, etc. in 1/32 scale have a 3.25" wheelbase. They look like these cars when mounted on a Womp chassis.

Okay---here's the start of my builds--4 new Hot Rods for my home track!! This is the bracing I added to the womp 1/32 chassis--axle tube for the front--braces on chassis back to front--axle tubes and motor brace. Then--they'll go into the tumbler for clean up--I'll be painting the bodies later today and picking up TSRF motors to use for power!
I'll post more pics later tonight of the assembled chassis. The bodies will be painted Red/White/Blue/ and Yellow to correspond with the IROC lanes they'll be running in!! Womps are FUN little cars.

Is that a rear axle tube? Converting to angle winder?
