And I just found this on ebay... there was an F1 at the same time, a Lotus 49 I think, but I missed that...

The chassis is in great shape Don. And the body isn't too bad either. :)

During the past 6-8 years, I've seen about a dozen of these chassis on eBay, so they're not as rare as I originally thought. There seemed to be more Can Am chassis than F1 in the mix  Most of those I saw, the seller had no idea what he had. Unless the auction was closing shortly, I usually PM'd the seller what  they had.

Thanks Bill,

The body has some splits on the back corners, as per usual, and that cutout in the front, but otherwise not too bad. A few resoldered joints on the chassis as well, but those are hard to see and should be an easy fix.

Looking back through SlotBlog I saw somebody had found a similar box but for the McLaren Mk6 (altho it was a Pactra chassis inside). I wonder what other models were offered?

The F1 chassis does seem to be rarer, altho I think the LASCM only has that one in its original bag.

Don, if you compare the Lancer sportscar chassis to their F1, the only difference is the wider pintubes & their brass rod outriggers added for weight. On both, the 2nd main rail is a "U" bent up, over, & down the rear axle tube & droparm back corners have a quarter-circle arc cut out of them.

Gentlemen,
not only did Lancer sell the two chassis separately, but they also issued no less than SIX factory assembled and painted RTR cars for these, three F1 cars, three sports cars.

The F1 are a Lotus 49C (Monaco ski-ramp spoiler), a Cooper-Maserati and a Ferrari 166 V12.
The sports cars are a McLaren M8A (as found by Don), a Ti22 and a Lola T160.

All have Mabuchi FT16D motors with oval hole and ball bearing, most nickel plated but some painted orange. Crown gears are by Riggen (they all crack), guides are Cox "quick change" and wheels and tires appear to be Dynamic items. Black or blue rears, all setscrew stuff.
Nice cars.
