Has anyone tried this stuff on Lexan?

I am not a doctor, but I played one as a child with the girl next door.

I've been using Createx for about 7 years now it works great, but sometimes I use other ones to get some cool custom colors.

Are you aware that the same product is available under a different label in many craft shops at a much cheaper cost? :)

SEMCO - although it appears it may now be a discontinued line :(

see http://www.needlegra...nt/prod3877.htm

Thankfully I have quite a selection of their colours.

Maybe I had better check out a couple of the "Spotlight" stores here in New Zealand and stock up :)

Hi Mike,
speaking only for myself I never tried the 'wicked color' line of paints ,just the plain createx. They have opaque, irredescent, transparent, flourescent and they all work just fine with lexan. I use 45-50 psi with an airbrush only. same as IF I were using the Faskolor from Parma.
I have never actually mixed the two paints together, but have used both brands on one body.

Wicked Color is thicker than the standard Createx. You will have to thin it down for easier application.

I have used the Wicked paint and had not seen any differance. It may seem to be thicker but so do some of the pearl colors, but they go through the air brush with no trouble. They can be put on very light coats with out having to thin them. But as always test them with your air brush and see if you need to thin then before you add any thiner.

The Wicked Colors do work great, but I would caution you that they are solvent-based paints, unlike the regular Createx and Parma Faskolor paints which are water-based. I have had no problem using them with my airbrush, just the cleanup and maintenance is different,

That is a great tip Gary!
I was NOT aware of this, nothing beats water clean-up! :)

So what does one thin it with and clean up the air brush with afterwards?

They have a thinner they recommend you use and then it appears they have a thickener in case you scew up. Nothing mentioned about what to use for clean up. I would use acetone anyway to make sure it was clean.

The reducer they recommend is the same used for other Createx paints.

Wicked Colors may be reduced with W100 Reducer or Auto Air 4011 Flash Reducer in any ratio for improved flow, atomization and customizing viscosity preferences.

I use the W100 a lot. It works great with Createx, Parma Fascolor, and Auto Air paints. I haven't tried the Wicked Colors paint yet. I use the W100 the most. I used to use Formula 409 to reduce the Parma Fascolor (before I knew about Createx and Auto Air), but since I started using the W100 I have had less problems with Fish Eye.

Also note this...

The use of heat to cure colors is one of the main differences between Createx Airbrush Colors and Wicked & Auto Air Colors which cure to a much stronger film with air drying alone (referred to as self-cross linking).

I still heat set all my water based paint.

I also found this on the Createx site...

http://www.createxco...rface_guide.pdf

Clean all spray guns and airbrushes immediately after use. Auto Air 4008 Restorer works excellent to clean all parts and partially dissolve any dried or cured paint, making clean up with water and a brush effective and easy. Flush with water after using Restorer. Final rinse with Auto Air 4011 Flash Reducer or Wicked W100 Reducer.

I use the W100 Reducer to clean my airbrush after using the Wicked Colors, works great for me.

1. So you use the "reducer" with the water based paints as well with no problems?

2. Is there any advantage of heat dry versus air drying other than heat taking less time for the paint to dry?

Has anyone "mixed" together the Wicked colors and the waterbased Createx paint trying to come up with some different color by mixing the two?

If so...how did that work? Did you think that mixture with water or the recommended reducer?

I'm using the "Createx" (Parma), "Wicked Colors" and the "Auto-Air" on the same bodies without any problems.
I have also used the Auto-Air 4011 and Wicked 0100 reducer on the Parma paint without problems.
The paint and reducer tends to split when stored over time, but shaking it up makes it ok.
I have not mixed the different brands to make any new shades of colors.
Here's a picture of a body painted with a mix of Createx (Parma) and Auto-Air colors.
