There were actually a fair number of Archie comics with slot racing themes, including a few covers, like this one from February 1968: Sabrina the teenage witch shrinks her boyfriend and herself so they can finally win a slot car race! (logic was not Archie's strong point...)

And this one from June 66 is rather interesting: height of the commercial slot racing boom, and the girls can't drag the boys away from the slot car track so they decide to fight fire with fire and pick up a few pointers from the local ace and beat them at their own game... I'll let you guess how it ends!

Don, those are fantastic! I have a soft spot for Archie and the gang. Back in the 60's my Father had a rubbish removal business. This was before the time of estate sales, garage sales and tag sales. When we did a clean out we usually got the entire house contents. I started working on the truck when I was about 7 years old. Imagine that happening today! Anyway, we took the crap to the dump, took the metal and rags to the place that bought such things and anything good went to an Antique store my parents had. I spent many long hours in that store keeping my Mother company. As you can imagine cleaning out so many houses we actually had thousands of comic books in the shop. I spent hours and hours reading them and Archie and Sgt. Rock where my favorites.

In the second to last pic you can see the dreaded " square " turns which are so hard to navigate :laugh2: And take a look a those Knockers in the last pic  These are the reason I put my cars in a box around 1971 :) And no, I did not wear a helmet when I raced slot cars

P.S. After I looked at this again I noticed in the first pic that 4 cars are racing and everyone has a controller except Jughead. Does not really matter as his eyes are closed as they almost always were. Wait, that's similar to the way I drive :wacko2:

Good story Joe! Sounds like you had an ideal childhood in many ways... I think by 1966 I had moved on from Archie (I was 14) - but the girls in my high school were never quite like that!

Good point about Jughead, got a laugh about that...

Wonder if any other comic book characters slot raced? Batman did on TV, but that's something else...

Interesting that all three racer guys use their left hands to operate the controllers.  Two of the girls apparently are also southpaws, but the blonde (Betty?) is the only righty!

Speaking of knockers reminds me of when I was a sophomore in HS and there was a brunette, a senior, Roberta Holmes with a body like a playboy bunny. That sure made an impression, being the only name I remember from HS 40+ years later. LOL

Mainly because all those girls in high school scared the heck out of me! Including our own Roberta...

I think my next topic will be, "Sex and the Single Slot Racer"...

Yes but it all turned out ok for most of us with family and kids, besides most of the jocks from HS can only watch sports on TV but we can still race our slot cars!

Touché John!

Here are a couple more recent acquisitions. I knew Archie of course, but the Wheelie and the Chopper Bunch is a new one - way past my childhood!

Great stuff as always,Don.

Wheelie and the Chopper Bunch was actually a short lived cartoon. If I remember correctly one of the characters made a stupid wheezing sound. I think it was the stupid looking one with the Fat Albert-esque Dumb Donald hat. But that's whole other cartoon.

I guess they did not have inhalers back then
