If you find a compressor quieter than a refridge, buy it. THey are free in junk yards everywhere, add a storage tank and regulator and you could run it in the babys room and not wake him/her.................

Rick,

Do you have one of these setup for your use?

I really would like to see how you did it.

This would be idea setup for an in house compresser!!

No. I don't have a need for a quiet compressor. But I think someone in slotblog does. IIRC it was posted years ago in here someplace.

I don't get it, what's the big deal about a little noise? I have a little Harbor Freight compressor that I bought for something like $50. Yes, its noisy compared to my professional illustrator friends $2000 unit or another's $400 Iwata compressor. The thing is I can paint 3-4 bodies before it turns on and runs for less than 2 minutes. The noise isn't so offensive to bother anyone else in my household. I don't see it bothering anyone who lives in an apartment neighbors if it ran once or twice a day. Bedsides you spend the $50 and when you get it home and if it's too noisy for your liking take it or send it back. Easier than making one and cheaper than professional units that are intended to be used 8 hours a day.

Much of the noise of any compressor is all the vibration they put out. Fill up a small inner tube about half full and rest the Harbor Freight unit on that and I'll bet the noise level would be come acceptable to most. AS Rob said they sell a small pancake unit for $39, on sale...............

I bought one of the Data Vac dusters.  Works pretty well.  Considering I would go through two four packs of canned air a month, and at $12 a four pack from BJ's wholesale, the Data Vac will pay for itself in about two months time or so.  Really works well considering all the motors I build for racing week in and week out, and I like to wash any acid of the chassis after soldering with motor cleaner and give it a spray dry, it should work well.  I have a small air compressor that I use with my airbrushes, but it doesn't put out enough air to really dry anything with.  The pancake compressor from Harbor Freight that I had I got rid of because that thing would wake the dead.
