I spent last weekend at the Monterey Historics and Peter Bryant was there signing copies of his new book about his life in racing. He was the designer of the Ti22 as well as the ultra-successful Shadow Can-Am cars.

I mentioned to him in passing that the Ti22 was probably the most revolutionary body ever used in slot racing when it came out and it was an instant success. I remember when I worked at REH Distributing in high school and college that we could not keep them in stock at the time. He said that the young Dutch Mandel who is now the publisher of "Autoweek" (his father was writer/publisher of "Autoweek" at the time) told him that the body had taken the slot racing world by storm. And then he told me that he had never seen one in all these years. So my question is can a Lancer 1/24 Ti22 body be had in this day and age? If so where can I buy one to send to him? Any direction would be appreciated.

This also reminds me of the long-anticpated arrival of the original Shadow 1/24 body from Dynamic, but I'll save that story for another time. The original Shadow and one of its original drivers, actually two (Vic Elford who drove it in competition and believe it or not Parnelli Jones who did some initial shakedown testing) were also at the Monterrey Historics. The McLaren M6A that Parma International used for promotion for years was also there running. It was quite a weekend to say the least.

Hi Steve,

I remember you from your 1/32 column in Car Model magazine in the early '70s.

There is this one: MAC-V03 - Lloyd Asbury 1969 Can-Am Ti22
...which might be really close to the Lancer original.

Steve, I have to agree that the Ti22 is one of the nicest bodies for slot cars. Pictured below is a Betta Bodies (UK) 1/32nd scale vacuum-formed Ti22:

Joking apart, there is so much stuff here that it will occupy me for the next 25 years just to sort it out...
Really what is interesting me mostly right now is to get the correct story of what happened in Italy and Switzerland between 1966 and 1973 as far as slot car activities, the people involved, especially about the Kitty company of Switzerland. Any info on them? Location, people involved, total production (believed to be three RTR models in the 1/24 scale)???
I have posted an update on the condition of the museum as it stood... yesterday. Please enjoy!

The guys from Turin have a written history of their club from '67 on. I can send it to you (in Italian).

Don has a bunch of great Italian slot magazines with great articles and pictures with amazing commercial tracks ads. When I'll get back I will point you to some other people that were involved in that period in Milan and Rome.
