Cheetah Powered by RAM

A freestyle 1966 scale racer by Rick Thigpen

This was a fun project that was "Ebay Affordable". I'd been buying Ram Hop Up parts for their 426 motor and finally put them all together. Ball bearings, brushes and springs, 64 pitch gears...oh baby

The Cox American mags are kind of sought after but you could use Cox BRM wheels (that's what I used for the spare wheel). Cox front tires and German Record Elastic 40mm rears.

Lancer body with aluminum tube for exhaust pipes and velocity stacks, sheet metal screw with a straight pin soldered to it for a quick fill gas cap and a Revell driver round out the body.

Thanks for looking!

Very nice job, Rick. It reminds me of my second 1/24th car built to race at MESAC in 1964. Very similar, but using a 36D...I soon learned the "Russkit Superleggera way"...

Dan, aren't you Rocky's old friend from the Denver area? :)

Dan,

I understand why you might think this fine work was done by Rick Thigpen, but it was done by the excellent Steve Okeefe.

Car looks good. I always had a weakness for these cars but the short wheelbase/ guide lead was sometimes a handicap. I built em anyway.

Hi Phil,

I actually built the car, as stated in the title of the post. Steve was kind enough to post it in his excellent sub-forum.

Sorry Rick,

Oops. I saw Steve's name in tiny letters at the bottom of the post and knew it was in his sub-forum. Somehow I missed your name in big letters at the top. Here I was trying to correct an error and I'm the one who made it.   :wacko2:  Pease excuse my faux pas.

PS: And sorry to you too, Dan.

Beautiful build.  How does the RAM run with all of those Hop up parts.

Here's a link to a RAM XL500 build up. It's a pretty interesting and fun motor:

Ram XL500... going... going... man, it's GONE!
