Modifying the Bonner Motor

By Bob Braverman

as published in Rod & Custom Models - October 1964

In 1964 the Bonner motor was considered highly competitive, but it suffered the same problems as most other lightweight motors being run at higher voltages and currents than their designers originally intended; not the least of these problems was reliability. Bonner motors ran hot, and heat is the big killer of electric motors. This article offers some ideas for improving cooling, and therefore reliability, in addition to improving performance.
