stopped by the antique store that i sometimes find slots in, today they had two. the one that interested me had a Wilson of Cleveland motor. the cylindrical one with a white endbell with the leads coming out of the top of it. it had a yellow label that had a bunch of writing on it such as: 3/32 shaft, new slot car motor or new slot racing motor, 12V. what motor was this?

it also had a aluminum chassis that was adjustable from two threaded rods that ran the length of the car and mounted on the side of the motor. i did some research and i think the rear axle bracket it Kal Kar?. it also had a wierd blue oval shaped guide that i think was trailing post. had ancient wheels with rock hard guessing record elastic tires on the back. no body. it was 25 bucks. just curious.

thanks.

Wilson was one of those companies that got involved into slot car and I must say, very unsuccessfully. Their motors (about a dozen varieties) and their chassis (I think only one sidewinder model in which the motor was an integral and structural part) were not much better than boat anchors to do the job. Things have changed today as they are an odd contender for the title of biggest loser, and they ought to be part of any decent collection. If the motor and the chassis are unused, not corroded and inside their original clear-plastic boxes, 25 bucks is a good price. Pounce now!

If that is indeed the exact motor, it would just be luck.  I don't know anything about them.

I just wanted to tell you there is a lot of good old info on that site.

Heck, even cheater Wells and Jack Beers have builds there

Hey, that gives me an idea........ Cheater........ :D

Wilson's of Cleveland (from Fort Lauderdale, Florida) was another of those hobby manufacturers that entered slot racing when somebody found that one of their motors could be used for slot cars. They were basically involved from 1963-66, although my earliest article is from 1962, with a Wilson motor used on a go-kart project.

All their motors seem to have been called "Slot Racer Motor", and they did something nobody else dared to do: make a motor with a 1/8" threaded shaft! That was besides their "monocoque" 427 chassis, with the chassis members an integral part of the motor. That one has some decent speed, but not the other Wilson motors I've seen. Still, they got some pretty decent write-ups at the time, mostly out of Florida if I remember right...

Besides the motors, they did a gear set, of white nylon...

I believe Rick (DC65X) has done a nice Wilson motor project - well, all his projects are nice, but this one has a modified Wilson motor!

They had a full gear line of OEM'ed Kemtron product. It will all be in the new book. Right, Dokk? :D

Some even fit Tiny Atom and Bubochie (see insert) motors ... :laugh2:

I am not aware of a Wilson's inline chassis, are you sure that the chassis is from them, or was the motor bolted in some other unit?

If not boxed and new, I would likely be hesitant to spend the money.

no i dont know who made the chassis. but i think the rear axle carrier is kal kar. nothing is boxed or new, it would be a complete running car if it had front tires.

this is the same motor and rear axle unit as the one i was looking at.

Here's a link to some earlier threads on the Wilson. Those side rails sound like the Champion Snuggler 2 chassis part?

nice cars Gary.

i went back today. they said they dont negotiate because the person who brought the item in prices it and pays rent for the space its in. a worker said he would tell the guy to bring in more slot stuff :good:

there was also a nice Russkit 36D next to it that i didnt see the other day. it was $10, would have bought it if it had a guide attached.
