FYI, my recently-built tuning fork stocker also has no side rails. As stated above, it might be somewhat vulnerable (although I've had no issues with wall shots yet) but it handles the tri-oval really well. I thought it was just a fluke, but your report above confirms my less-than-scientific trials.
