I have been using the clips for 2 season with zero failure and used them last year in the ROC race. They are on every car in my box. We race as much as anyone and don't know why some are having issues. It has to be put on wrong, is all I can figure?? They are difficult to pull off, it wanting to, I am amazed they could come during a race?

Nope. Had been clean up to that point and was sniffing at a podium behind the 2 rockets. Started on white with a 42.3 and red with  a 41.9 moving to green with you, Howie and Dave within a lap and licking my chops ready to go through the middle lanes. When the tire blew I got hit and didn't realize the motor had a broken solder joint on the bottom edge.

I coulda been somebody, I ...............

I'm not sure Rick, just dumb racing luck I guess. I probably had them installed incorrectly if you have not had any failures.

I've found another use for them that works just great, I'll show you at the ROC next month.

I have heard a couple of guys saying they came off and am truely puzzled as why? I had to replace some fronts a couple of months ago because they were too small and had to pull pretty hard to get them off. They had been on long enough to wear out the fronts. I am sorry to hear you had a problem. I would like to figure out the whys?. and I know once bitten, twice shy.....Did you use the little washers that come with them?

I didn't measure the axle, but it was a new, really sweet handling Sampson Classic with CL BB front wheels. I used the retainer with the spacer and left a couple thou side play. It had close to a 1/4" axle nub from retainer to the end of axle. I honestly didn't look at the wheel between heats, maybe it had worked it's way off and finally let go that 3rd heat due to the side play I put in it.

I tried a retainer on an axle before installing them on this new build, and you are correct, they are really tuff to get off. I was really surprised it came off during that race. I guess it just did not bite into the axle like my test did.

Who knows, but it happened to you and at the most critical time!  I have even tried them on hardened steel pins to see if they might not bite but they did. When I put them on I push on snug then pull a little to give it some clearance, maybe that "sets" the teeth? Sorry about your loss................

with CL BB front wheels

That might of been the cause.

Your front wheels probably got moving faster than the car could possibly go.

Was the car ever airborne?

Right before it came off, did you hear a loud turbine "whooshing" sound, like something spinning
2 or 300,000 rpm ?

As the chassis builder, I would think it might be the other way round... the wheels could not handle the awesome speed of the frame :D

Kevin, next time -  Samson Classic wheels, no clips or retainers needed!

Of course it could just have been that you did not run the "p" out of the frame first......

Congrats to all who used my F1 frames, Bernie tells me you occupied 4 of the top 6 Qualifying spots!

The only turbine "whooshing" noise I heard, was that FAST ONE/RPM car spanking the rest of us.

I think I might have just discovered the reason for the failure!

It could of been my "Harry Nuts" that I just started using! :)
