While I sort out paint supplies and a few other pieces I finally worked out what paintjob this Stock car will have. As it's body shape is one mainly used by the real 1:1 racer John Lund #53 I decided to do a replica paint scheme.

Here's one picture of John Lunds 1996-97 paint scheme that I will be painting.. on a car that he used for many years before with other schemes.

Here's the chassis with the sprung clip underneath to hold the body on the top frame.

Chassis Clip.jpg

Plus the body now sporting clips to wrap underneath & around the top frame main rails, along with the one clip with the hole for the top frame spring clip.

Body clip 1.jpg

Body clip 2.jpg

Lastly the body now clipped in place on the top frame, the way the clips are done the body is free to float whilst clipped on . Just like the two halves of the chassis the body floats left & right back and forth again taking G force out while corning, essential when using bodies made of metal!

The vac formed styrene stox shells are way lighter and although can be mounted the same and made to float it isn't really needed.

Now got to make the air filter guard/surround and then its sand paper and filing to clean it all up before getting an interior sorted and then painting! :D

Soldered on the air filter guard and started cleaning up all the rough edges and solder joints on the roof pillars etc , looking better, now just needs a good rub down for a silky smooth finish :D

Getting there! Soon #53 will be ready to go :D Now time to think what to do next for Wellgate Slotstox version 2.0 and other projects ! :D

Slow but surely its paint time :D

Now as I've been getting ready to build cars again the painting tools etc have been waiting in line to be grabbed. Some rattle can for the base of the stock car , with a view to getting some "One Shot" paint as recommended by Noose & Duffy for the sign writing ASAP !

Here's the primed body & chassis...

Now to go grab some gold rattle can for the body and then in the next few days some One shot for the sign writing :D

Paul, This is an excellent thread. You've inspired me to try my hand at making a metal body for my next slotstox car. I'm thinking of using an aluminum beer can for mine though.

Well finally got to Texas Art Supply and got some gold paint & clearcoat, along with some clear plastic sheet 0.010" thick for making the roof spoiler/aerofoil .

Now started laying some color down and will get some enamel paint to start sign writing the body.

Now where'd that clear plastic go? It's roof spoiler time :D

Paul, do you live close enough to one of the Texas slot tracks to give it a roadtest once the car is complete? :)

Thanks Mark :good:  Normally when I used to race these I just painted the womp front wheels white & painted the spaces inbetween the spokes black. But for this return to building and the fact that this one isn't racing (yet) may look at some inserts, may even have to make some.

Once I get the spoiler made it will look even better ! Stay tuned :sun_bespectacled:

I love it, Paul :good: .

Don't ever sell the 501 Parma motor short.

We had a "local raceway" a few years ago, and the NASCAR flexi class with sealed Deathstar was VERY popular.

Kids, Moms, Dads, hardcore racers, everybody was there rock n rolling every weekend.

Then somebody got the idea we could go faster using S16D's, and that was the beginning of the end.  Sad but true. :bad:

Oh no dont get me wrong I love the 501 motor Pablo :D  Raced them in the Stox for over 10 years and they are a hoot, geared 7/27 for running on the oval track ( 2x   8x4 boards end to end) were mighty fast ! Just a bit of humor between the real V8 and the fast and fun 501 ...

Another piece in place :) The windshield.. or in this case the window guard , or muck catcher!

Grill in place.jpg

So here's what progress we have so far, grill in place and airfilter trimmed some more and fitted.

Some enamels have now been aquired and it's paint time :D Oh and a small matter of a driver/interior to be grabbed too.

Ok ..... so it's been a while but just haven't been in the right frame of mind to sign write this car & from bad experience if you aren't in the mood you can kiss that

lovely paint job goodbye :shok:

So with starting a new project in this here scratchbuilding area has given me some fresh incentive and a :bomb:  up the rear to get on and finish this!
