This past weekend I received the following email message (forwarded) from Bob's Hobby Shop in Watervliet, Michigan:
"Today I am announcing that I have decided to close my store, Bob's Hobby & Collector Shop.
This process will take quite a while because of the amount of merchandise I have to liquidate located on all levels of my store including the basement and a warehouse full of items that I also have.
I am beginning the process starting tomorrow, May 30, 2013, and continuing as long as it will take. We will have everything in the store at 20% off, including the Lionel train sets, and we will allow an extra 2% discount if you pay with cash.
We will have more information about all this in our store.
As I said this will take quite a while to accomplish and I want to let you know we Will still be here for the next two auctions planned for this year, the next one on August 24 and the last one for December 7th.
Please stop in for further information.
Thank you
Bob Taylor"
NOTE: The last time I was in the store, the vintage slot car parts selection wasn't much, but maybe as he cleans out his warehouse he'll have some more interesting items show up on the sales floor.
Here's Bob's WEBSITE.

Thank you for the additional information John. As we both raced at Bob's 'back in the day" this feels in some ways like a death in the family.

I know, I still remember the day we raced together.
The latter part of the 70's I believe.

How far is Bob's from Redamak's?

Bob's track was approximately 40 miles east of Redamak's.
The track was an American Orange that had some modifications.

We had Mach's, a furniture/tchotchke store on the main drag in our neighborhood that was "going out of business" my whole childhood. LOL.

In Los Angeles we have Oriental Carpet stores that also are perpetually "out of business".

Yes, a common business model.
I should of added "carpet" to "furniture/tchotchke" on the description of Mach's.
In the west suburb's ritziest town, Hinsdale, there is one down the street from the Ferrari dealer.
They're pretty fast and loose with the term "liquidation".
Liquidate stock until they get more in to liquidate. LOL
I'm sure the play is the store thinks customers will assume they are getting a once in a lifetime bargain.

In any case, glad to hear that Bob's is not closing and that he was actually able to settle the credit card problem - I talked with him about that a few years ago, and it was a very, very discouraging situation!
