dang super sano as usual Rick! you cut that body out beautifully by the way.
me thinks that car would look sweet with (dont know what you call it?) six lead wires of Cox super flex instead of the two modern.

Hi Mark,
I'm not sure if triple lead wires were still widely use in 1974 or so. I love the though. I went with single yellow lead wires for a couple of reasons. One, the color was available then (Marklin train wire for sure). Also since this car is a runner I wanted some super soft Slick 7 wire soldered to the brush arms so as not to influence their position. Perhaps I should have soldered the wires to the top of the brush arms next to the spring.
Hind sight is 20-20 they say

I have the Matador and Monte Carlo versions as well. Some of the packaging reads, "Bodies By Champion JUST - FOR - FUN". The AMC Matador is my favorite and it was on this car but it was destroyed in a "racing incident"
Rick, You have the Matador or was that body destroyed? If you have intact, could you please post a picture of both the Matador and the Monte? Is it the original Matador 1 or or Matador 2 with the bugeyes?
Thanks...

Did anyone ever make the Marlin or "The Machine" ?
Posted 22 August 2013 - 02:29 PM
Bob..."dersankar" (in case you're out there somewhere, hi D.R.) sold a Rambler Marlin a couple months ago...
I saw it listed, but didn't bid on it...
He had it listed as a Charger...so I sent him a message and told him what it was...
Don't know the manuf. of the body though? (it was a vac formed clear 1/24 body)

Here's the Matador:
I think it looks really cool painted up in red, white and blue.
And the Monte Carlo:

So THATS a Matador!
Posted 22 August 2013 - 05:52 PM
Yes, That the Roger Penske/Bobby Allison 1974 Matador. It was Roger first attempt in NASCAR with Mark Donohue driving the 72 Matador then Bobby driving this.
The 70-72 Monte was the class of NASCAR with this style. The decals came from the Allison Coke car...
The Monte is truely the classic and should be repopped, but the Matador was very unique as well and should be reissued.
Thanks Rick for saving some NASCAR and Slot Car history...

So Nice Rick ....
Funny that the AMC came with a right hand driver ..... lol
Well .... they did use the TorqueFlight transmissions ... and that is quite the copy of the 1970 Dodge Scat Pack Bee.

With PARMA buying CHAMPION don't they own the rights to these? Or did the original molds get scrapped?

Man, that's a slick build; It's the little details for me, the tinning area on the can and that radius you cut on the bottom of the wheel wells - I wouldn't have thought of that but it's a really nice touch and makes perfect sense.
Just sweet all round.

Thanks Simon,
It always bugged me to do a nice paint job on a motor and then scratch, grind and otherwise butcher the paint off to solder it in. Then someone clued me in to the tinning and masking can....it might have been PdL.
