What Rick said.

A lot of times, the stop wire can't lay flat on the pan b/c of differing thicknesses of the pans vs. the bracket plate. In order to get the wire as close to flat as possible in the bottom of the tubes, I have to bend a dogleg and/or have a bit of angle in the wire (usually both). The little "filler" wire bit allows better contact and a better solder joint.

I do the same at times.

By the way, do you have a Z-bender? It's a sweet tool for making such bends!  http://www.amazon.co...ywords=z bender  I got mine at a local hobby shop that does a lot a RC business.

If you have a soldering iron and a Dremel tool, you can achieve scratchbuilding "talent" in short order. Now, you didn't specify "good" talent.  LOL   GOOD talent comes with not being afraid to fail and trying and trying and trying.
