Getting ready to head to Fenton, Michigan, for the Michigan 24 hour endurance race. If you don't know about this race, click HERE.

Six teams, five drivers on a team, five lanes, 24 hours of actual racing with 1/32 Slot.it cars. We start tomorrow morning and won't finish until late Sunday afternoon. I did it last year and it's grueling.

The Slot Car Corner team has dominated this race the last few years and we hope to break that streak this year but it's a tough task because these guys live 1/32 scale racing.

Wish us luck and I'll let you know how we did.

Butch

Good luck, Butch.

Glad you have four co-drivers, as I know you have a hard time staying awake for eight hours, much less 24. LOL!

The only time I have a problem staying awake is when I'm around you.  :laugh2:  :tease:  :dance4:

That's a lie... I talk so much there is absolutely no way you could go to sleep. Your eyes do often glaze over though... right before your ears start to bleed IIRC.

LOL!

Hey, take some pics, willya? And post them when you get back, after you get your beauty rest. (Too bad that "rest" hasn't worked as advertised for you...)

Well, I survived the Michigan 24.

On the plus side we did a lot better this year than we did last year. Last year we finished fifth out of five teams. This year we finished fifth out of six teams so at least we didn't finish last.

On the plus side (so I was told) we ran around 20 miles further this year than we ran last year. We ran around 260 miles.

The winning team (Slot Car Corner) ran around 295 miles. Again this is what I was told so I don't know it for a fact. They set a new world record for a 1/32nd scale 24 hour endurance race. These guys are a class act and one hell of a nice bunch of guys to race with.

This year we had a schedule where each driver got around five hours off so you could go back to the motel room and get some sleep. We didn't do this last year and by the time the race was over I was so tired and miserably I had no plans on ever doing it again, but I changed my mind about three days later. A little sleep made all the difference in the world and I had a great time.

On the plus side we had a lot less problems this year than we did last year but on the negative side we had to replace a motor which cost us around a hundred laps by the time we got it back on the track. I don't know what took so long to replace it because I was on my sleep break when it was done.

With six teams on five lanes, running a round robin it took right on 31 hours to run the race. It sure made for a long race but since we got some sleep this time it wasn't near as grueling. In fact I was feeling pretty good when it was over and didn't even get sleepy on the four and half hour drive home.

What a great weekend!

Great to hear you survived, Butch!

Sorry that the motor let go. :shok: Pretty amazed you lost 100 laps with just the motor change?!

Thom,

The motor was just real slow, they would eat us up by at least 5' on the straightaway. If I would have had some Pure motor spray with me I would have tried it first to see if it helped. Our fastest lap even after the motor change was 1/2 second slower than the really fast teams on each lane.

Paul,

I don't know why it took so long. We changed the motor, the spur gear, and a lead wire. You do have the headlight wires to contend with also and you have to be real careful you don't accidentally screw something up.

Working on those 1/32 cars can be really fiddly, especially in the heat of battle with sleep deprivation in an endurance race!

Will you be going back for more next time?
