Bob, thanks for the bevel gear tips.

Mikey, thanks for looking. If you're like me, you always find something you have looked for in the past, but couldn't find, until now. Hope you found something you had been missing.

That is a very interesting procedure on how to ready a set of tapered gears. I have some new sets that I intend on using with my Atlas', and I'll put your technique to use . Thanks!

  1. Make sure the axle and motor shaft are in direct alignment.
  2. Use a fine sharpie marker on the tooth faces of both gears.
  3. Set the pinion so it is in full tooth contact with the crown.
  4. Turn over slow on your power supply for about 30 seconds.
  5. Inspect gear set with eye loop to see how the marker is worn off.
  6. Make a note or, take a picture or since your young 'just remember' ... lol
  7. Clean of sharpie with brakecleaner or lighter fluid and a brush.
  8. Put it all together just the way you had it before.
  9. Put some 'fine' polishing compound or tooth paste with baking soda on the crown gear face.
  10. Run it on 'slow' (very slow) on the power supply for about 10-20 minutes.
  11. Take it all apart, clean it all off and go back to step #2 .... :laugh2:
