Hi all,

Have a motor here that I would love to hear about.  It's definitely a Mura Int-15 from back in the day, not sure how far back and/or what class it was run in.

Really faded Mura sticker on it.  Arm is tagged INT-15 and has balance marks.  It has ball bearings on both can and endbell sides.  Lead wires are mine.

Here are some pictures:

Thank you for any insight or other comments.

80s Mura I-15.

Built up from all Mura parts.

  • "New Breed" can
  • Transplanted Int-15 arm
  • Add BBs
  • Elephant Ear heat sinks
  • Buss bar full endbell kit.

Very nice ... I'll trade ya for it :D

Yes, late 80s into the 90s.

That can was out in 89 when I started racing again.

They never offered up a Int15 arm in their ball bearing motors, just Gp. 20's. Prob blew the arm and someone threw a 15 in for replacement. IIRC the BB Gp.20 sold for about $42.......................

Cool, thanks for the info guys!

Club Member Rodney Ford ran Int-15 in the 90's.  Next time I see him I'll have to get the lowdown.

I think it was around in the early 80's, but I wouldn't stake my life on it.

The Parma I15 RTR I bought in late '81, when I got back in, had a 2 hole can, but I thought the separate RTR motors I would buy with the Mura label were different.

Yes $42.00 but it had an orange endbell and did not have Elephant Ears.

I added them to this motor when I bought it - http://slotblog.net/...e-1#entry350142

I seem to remember them with elephant ears in a plastic case? then the plastic case( (sans plastic bag) went away and so did the elephant ears. EB looks correct too, in  orangeish..... 2 hole cans were demoted to 12's.

In 1989 timeframe my brother was 17 and would go to The Race Place in Collingwood Flea Market and win Wildcat races with his "Magnum" Group 12 car...he took me along with him and I got into Womp Womps.  For Christmas that year or 1990 he bought me a Flexi-Kar.  My Grandaunt Lena would give me $2 every time I saw her for track time.  The Race Place burned down sometime in that period, we could see the smoke from my house in Wall (where I am still living to this day).  Into the closets and garages went the slot cars, until I found where The Race Place moved to (I found it in 2005 on my way to a Dr. Appointment) and here I am.

My Grandaunt gave me $2 every time I saw her up until she passed away in 2002, and if I remember right, it was $2 bills.  To this day, the price of 15 minutes of track time when you have your own stuff is $2.  That's pretty cool.. :D

Thank you for allowing me to take a trip down memory lane!

Cool info about these motors!  I wish I found the new location of The Race Place in 1991...video games suck the life out of you....

Rick,

I stand corrected .. You're right.  But, I don't know about the later bagged w/o ears.

So .. This got me to..as Dokk would say.. go to the Vault and get it out and look.

The one I show below was bought a Zeppelin when they first opened.

The track I was running at Radical Raceway in Lodi owner said 'lets run a GR-20 class" so being a 'pro-active' wanna be I bought this and the class never happened.

I set the magnets, shimmed it the way I like them and added the shunted brushes and a phenolic oil-slinger/goop shield and back in the box.

Hey ... 40 bucks was a lot of money for me then with a stay at home mom wife, 3 kids, a mortgage.

Here it is again in all it's lost glory.

What's it worth? ... $51.00... lol

Kool Bob! Zep opened on 1990. IIRC? The can was known as the "trinity" can?

I am pretty sure of this( Zep birth) because we both bid for the Nats in Atlanta that year, :)  I was walking on air as everyone was congratulating me and  my wife for going to get the Nats, only to find out it was won by Sunshine Hobbies, in FLA????  I think Zep then got it in '92.............

I think Zeps opened late 1989, since they held their first "500" in 1990.  The first few months they were open, on a Friday afternoon their showcases were full, and by the end of the night they were nearly empty.  Being the first slot car facility in northern NJ in over 3 decades, a lot of people who played with them back in the 60's discovered slots again, this time with their own kids in tow.

And yes, Zeps got the 92 Nats.

When I first got back into slots early in 1989, I had the choice of Elmsford, the Race Place, and Trains and Lanes, all over an hour from where I lived. Zeps opened within 10 minutes of where I worked....

I was wondering what happened to the original Race Place facility at the auction house....I raced there occasionally in the 60's during visits to the Jersey shore.

Cool story, John! Maybe Pete L or Gator Bob can tell the story of the race place from the 90s. I hear bits and pieces....

I have that issue as well Bob...kept it since I won the Grp 12 class at the 500 that year.

And I still have a controller with a "Fleming hinge"....

I noticed the "quarter scale R/C" races in the calendar... at that point, why not buy a go-kart?  :D

That's great John,  :good:

Getting a win in any class at the Zep500 is a great accomplishment, one you deserve to be proud of. :victory:  :sun_bespectacled:

That was a really nice Hillclimb.

1/4 scale probably cost as much as racing a cart in a lower class. :wacko2:

You were lucky to have Zep, Hotslots, Rockaway and Eagle in that time frame up your way. Turned out to be 'too many tracks all at once'. :shok:

Right smack dab in the middle of my Aggressor Frame building years.  Gonna guess it was introduced in about '83 as "New Breed" and "Trinity" cans, superseding the two-hole can.  But most competitive Int15 motors were still based on the two-hole can and then cut to Yell and Back!  The holes in the new breed can made it difficult to achieve desired results when heavy mods were applied.  But this was the can of choice where modifications were not allowed.

Thanks guys. Things came together in that class because I had home track advantage over the Keystone USRA guys, and Grp 12 experience over the locals. Unfortunately it was the only time they ran the class because it was not popular locally, and the next year the entry levels boomed.  So that class got cut.
