I haven't posted many photos of my IRRA^® builds but decided I'd archive some of them here for historical purposes .

How about indicating which chassis are about 4" and which ones are for stock cars?

Post #5, first and second pics are stockers.

Post #6, 11th and 12th pics are a stocker.

All 2014 pics are three Katz-inspired Pablo design stockers.

 

Everything else, of course, is, Can-Ams and F1a.

Which ones are your fastest/favorite for each division?

Thanks for asking, Will   I race so infrequently I don't feel qualified to guess which ones are fastest.

But, some have become favorites, and most are still racing today.  

The post #3 square tube / piano wire sandwich F1 won some races;  I made several sisterships of it and some of them are still racing.  

The post #4 Can Am was always a reliable performer and I still have one of the sisterships in my box. The original, I believe, is still in the hands of Brian McPherson.

The post #5 Bill Worden parts tripod is my favorite Can Am, I TQed with it once at Viper Pit, and it's still my personal “Go-To” car.

The post #6 RGeo F1 kit worked great at one of the SANO’s on the King, I did real well with it. 

The very first 2014 Katz design stocker handled perfect right out of the gate, passed crash testing with flying colors, and the other 2 are exact copies.  I hope to make one for myself very soon. 

Any chassis that is flat, straight, balanced, fairly accurate, and strong can be tuned to handle well.  But some just have a little extra magic.  I built a couple that were losers also; the evil handlers all ended up in the junk pile and photos were deleted.

Some nice looking cars in your IRRA stable Pablo can see the progression of ideas /designs especially the square tube.

Didn't an F1, that wasn't to the owner's liking, get sent to the mid- Alantic region when someone there offered to take it of your hands & rebuild it, before you could get the Dremel out?

Bill, it had too much steel and wire, too stiff, and would deslot at odd times.  So I built Brian a complete new one with less wire.  You are right, before I could put the dremel to it, it was claimed by an east coast guy who rebuilt it with more flex and raced it with great success.  That chassis even had a name, but I forgot it.

I have a can-am chassis that looks very much like this one...

Is it a Pablo chassis ?  Maybe a sistership I built for you ? How does it handle ?

 

Out of all these chassis, I can only remember one or possibly two solder joints breaking, as I tend to overbuild them. 

Got a phone call yesterday from the owner of the latest 2014 Katz/Pablo stocker, he said it handled super right out of the box as delivered.

Doesn't surprise me, as this was the third one, but it is still music to my ears

Yes, I did mean the 2nd F1 chassis.

Hey Pablo, that one that was rebuilt is the "Junkyard Dog"... took me to a podium at the Southern Shootout a few years ago.

Brian got a completely new F1;  the evil handling F1 was going to get chopped into little pieces but Streisguth adopted it.  He rebuilt and re-invented it as the "Junkyard Dog".

That Cam Am is, indeed, the one pictured in post # 4, yep, you can see where it got changed from body clip tabs to pin tubes inside pieces of square tubing. The solder residue where the tabs were is still there   A telltale clue   Looks like it had a few other minor changes done to it.  A workhorse  If the handling ever starts going bad, check the brass tongue, in a hard wallshot it may bend.  Bend it back, or change to steel.

Only changes I ever made was the motor. Anything else you might see was done with your 'mini-torch'  :-)

Old school Can-Am, wheelbase 4.0", guide lead 13/16", weight 65 grams, front axle PCH, BB's Pro Slot, Chicagoland Versabracket plus Brackagra brace, pans .025" with .025" tilt, rails .063", front hinge wires .063", rear hinge wires .055".

Track test results:  Slapped a junk IRRA Ferrari practice body on 'er and drove it hard, Handles fine and it's faster than my Tripod Can Am.  Greg Gilbert and Steve Harrington both drove it and loved it.

It is built up into a completed IRRA legal car, JK Hawk Retro motor broken broken in and ready to race with all brand new top shelf parts, sans body. It's for sale if anybody wants it, $200 plus shipping, tracking, and insurance.  If not, this will be my new personal Can Am.
