Track looks great in person as well.

Plan is to rework the white pegboard wall behind it to position the track better, hopefully next weekend.

Also the computer will be coming next week.

The track has power and runable. The competer hardware is coming. The remodeling is to be done this weekend to set up the space for the track.

I will be at BPR every sat in Feb to get the HO program going.
I will help with any technical questions, car set up.

Are we going to be able to get parts over the counter from BPR, or are you going to have them available for purchase?

This is one reason why I do not race HO more often, I dislike having to mail order everything... LOL.

Oh, one more thing. How soon is the new Mega-G going to be available?

The Mega G+ is out now, Lucky Bobs has them in complete cars and rollers.
Dan of Viper Scale Racing is trying to supply parts (he can supply his line and Wizzard parts) to BPR.

Max did a great job of moving the pegboard wall back, the track fits very nice next to the Kingleman.

Computer coming next week... and then we will be ready for racing!

Is the track wired for normal controllers, or do we need a reverse polarity/dual polarity unit?

I use my Ruddock for HO Racing Foamy!! Any controller will probably work for you!  I'm heading down to Escondido Saturday for racing with Dan Cronin --at the Viper headquarters!! It will be my first exposure to HOPRA racing.  I'm also picking up a new hard body for the SCHOR racing family!! I've got a good SS car for them now eh Mike?!!   HO"s are fun--great to see a track at BPR!! I'll be making some races there too!!

Ok. A small rant:

I don't like stock motor racing, the manufacturing variables make for uneven performance.

I don’t like it when we did it in HO and I'm not a fan of it in retro. But it is what it is!

Fortunately in HO racing where we use a stock based arm, we allow the arm to be "worked up" (balanced and comm cut), that gives a product that is very consistent.

No longer buying and trying many motors to find a good one, easier on my budget and frustration!

Got a couple of Mega G+ today.

Disassembled the car. The motor, circuit board assembly lifts out of the top once the pickups and spring are removed.

The pickup hangers and motor are soldered to the circuit board.

Going to upgrade the front and rear wheels/tires, gear, axle. Also will stack in some helper magnets over the stock traction magnets.

Will run some performance comparisions with another hardbody race car.

Mike, I've got a Wizzard Strom Extreme coming in the mail. Can you give me an idea what class it woud race with a hard body?

We're allowed to ADD magnets??

In general... NO.

The hardbody class is an unusual mix of different type of cars with different levels of performance. The class was design for beginners to race what they got without doing a lot of performance mods.

There are some parity allowances so the different makes of cars are equal in performance.

It morph into a full blown expert race class when expert racers also wanted to race the class, with the expert's tuning, the cars became quite fast.

The class has been divide into beginners and experts.

The previous Mega G car was allow to replace the traction magnets with lvl 50 magnets, and this will also be the case with the Mega G+.

I have some lvl 50 magnets that are not the same shape as the stock magnets, so for test purposes I'm going to just stack them on top.

The Mega G+ will have enough rear traction with the lvl 50 magnets. The issue with this car is the balance of the magnetic force, it is rear bias.

The pickup tuning becomes critical, getting it right with enough tension for good power but not too much so the front of the car pops out of the slot.

Mike, I've got a Wizzard Strom Extreme coming in the mail. Can you give me an idea what class it woud race with a hard body?

In the SCHOR (hardbody) and HOPRA (box stock) world of racing the Wizzard Strom has no place as a hardbody racer.

In HOPRA Spec box stock it can be race, but no one runs this out here.

The racing I'm trying to start at BPR will be closely related to the SCHOR and HOPRA racing here in So Cal. No good in creating something different and be racing in a bubble.

So, hardbodies (SCHOR rules) and superstocks (SCHOR, HOPRA rules).

Btw, a HOPRA superstock can compete with SCHOR superstock. Watching Tony Porcelli (HOPRA superstock) running down Ben Vasquez (SCHOR superstock) at the 1st Big SHOt race is proof of that.

But, the track I placed at BPR is open to any sort of HO racing, you just need enough racers to start something, talk to Debbie.

Dan in Escondido is starting to run HOPRA rules at his and some other guys tracks! His thinking is to follow NATIONAL rules to allow racers to race similar cars across the country. So yes--there is some HOPRA racing starting in SoCal.

The superstock class in SCHOR and HOPRA differ in two major ways. One: SCHOR uses compression molded (CM) ceramic level magnet, HOPRA uses ceramic magnets.

The CM magnet are about 10% stronger and four times cheaper than the ceramic magnets. The results is that a CM handles a bit better, but a ceramic car's motor turns more rpm and a bit quicker on the straights.

The ceramic tractions are $24 a set compare to $6 for CM. And to get good ceramic motor magnets you need to search for them and then match them.

Two: HOPRA requires folded tab comms. No performance difference here either way.

Out here most people run CM magnet (cheaper!). But if you want to race the Nats, you want to sort out your cars with ceramic magnets

Used the VRP magnet downforce meter to compare the relative downforce.

Measurement taken in gram scale mode w/o rear tires:

Mega G+ stock magnets. 7g

Tomy SG+ in hardbody tune. 15g

Viper V1 superstock CM. 25g

The lvl 50 magnets I had didn't fit in the Mega G+, so I have to wait for some that will.
