Driver's monitor and computer speakers are in. Ran a short race to test everything out and looks good to go... I won the race btw  :D

Still need to put in all the settings for track size and times for the heats, but that just takes a few mouse clicks on Saturday.

Blueprint for a $40 Hardbody racer, runs 2.4 sec lap times on the BPR BS1A track.

2015-03-06 22.03.44.jpg

You can pickup a TYCO 440x2 car for under $20 nib (or find one lying around), and then get $20 in hop-up parts.

And have a great hardbody HO racer

Mike, I don't race HO but I must say that I really like how you use "highlighted" photos to show everyone how to modify an HO car for racing at BPR.

I like your method of showing how to DIY.  I just might use this photo method to show how to build/setup our D3 Hardbody racing cars. Good photos and clearly documenting how to modify slot cars is very helpful to newbies as well as experienced racers.

Keith :)

Top right is low downforce setup, bottom left is high downforce setup.

Install traction magnet on same side, depending on high or low downfroce.

The lvl 50 magnets I had didn't fit in the Mega G+, so I have to wait for some that will.

Have you found a source for the correct sized traction magnets as yet?

the first one is better looking design. I wanted to have some racing theme, so hence the racing stripe.

how about "The Doctor" winning the first Moto GP of this year!

Dan of VSR (http://viperscaleracing.com/main.sc) should have the magnets. They are not on his online catalog, but he has them, send him an email. They are taller than the stock ones, so the retaining tabs have to be cut away and the magnets glued in. DO NOT cut the bottom of the chassis to lower the magnets. The traction magnets on the Mega G+, by Schor rules, must sit in the stock locations. My 3 cents.. the car is better with the stock traction magnets lower in the chassis than using the stronger magnets in the stock location. But people were sneaking in stronger magnets, so the rules were changed.

Good thing I have some spare parts 'someone' handed me after they took a couple of cars apart!

Assemble a mega G+. Selected tires as low as possible. Pickup and pickup springs stock (may stretch spring a bit for more power).

Will test it this weekend at BPR.

Ran some laps with MegaG+.  Good news, the 48 neo traction magnets makes the car stuck to the track.  Bad news the motor doesn't have enough power, the car runs full punch around the whole track.

Back to the lab and put the car on the dyno, rpms are 25% less that a Tyco x2 or SG+ hardbody.

Next mods to MegaG+:

Larger dia rear tires, .464" dia slip-ons.  To reduce some of the down force

Smaller crown, 20T.  For more speed

More pickup tension, stretch springs and added helper springs.  To get more juice to the motor

HO SpringNats history

Back in the early 90s, HO racing was big out here in So. Cal. John Cukras was running the SCHOR (Southern California HO Racers) club, and I had a small HO slot car hobby shop (Apex Hobbies) in Torrance. So what better than to have a large profile event, thus John and I got together and created the HO SpringNats.

The SpringNats ran from 1993 to 95 at my shop, 1996 to 98 at Pete Santini’s custom auto paint shop, and a couple years after that at a lodge location (not too sure about this, as I lost track of the event after the Santini events). The six events between 1993 to 98 were the highlight of the HO magnet racing out here in So. Cal. Two days of HO craziness where 50 HO racers would come and race the event. There were four to five classes, and all I remember was “I was glad it was done“ but “can't wait for the next one”.

The event was always run on two tracks, the Buck Scorpion (4' by 16’), and the Ken Oard monster track which Ken built for us (Nick Toma and I, for our shop). The “Oard” track was 6’ by 24’, six lanes of Tomy plastic track, 90’ lap length, and it was just a “speedway”. Great for the fastest of the HO cars, Neo class and Unlimited class.

The premier race at the SpringNats was the Neo class on the “Oard” track, everyone wanted to win this one! Here is the list of champions from 1993 to 1998:

1993    Dale Yamashita

1994    Dale Yamashita

1995    John Cukras

1996    Pete Santini

1997    Roger Courtois

1998    Dale Yamashita

Here are some race reports of the event: http://slotcarspeeds...bel/Newsletters

So it’s back again in 2016!!!, “can't wait for the next one”

Unfortunately, my work responsibility precludes me from participation or planning any slot car activities on Saturdays.

Which means the SHot Race and the SpringNats HO races will be on hold.

I thank all the racers that have participated in the past HO races at BPR, it was good racing!

Are HO races still held at BPR?
