One of the most fascinating restoration projects in many years is Duncan Pittaway's recreation of the FIAT S76 land speed record car from 1910.

It seems reasonably certain that only two of these monsters were made. Pittaway stumbled on the chassis of one of the cars in Australia and later found the engine from the second car. And for the past 3-1/2 years, he's been recreating the rest of the bits needed to construct a complete S76 car, including manufacturing the missing transmission from scratch!

Noted UK artist and photographer Stefan Marjoram has been documenting the process from the beginning with the intent of producing a movie he has titled "The Beast of Turin." Here's his recently-posted trailer for the film, showing the beast being started for the first time in over 100 years.

The full story of the car's recreation can be found on The Old Motor at this LINK.

Never forget that first place goes to the racer with the MOST laps, not the racer with the FASTEST lap
