Does anyone have any proof on the timer that this "dampening tape" does anything or is it just another monkey see, monkey do, romance item???

If the chassis is twitching or chatter check your solder joints.  There may be too much flex somewhere in the chassis.

If you have taken any wall shots the chassis may have memory even after straightening.  The only way to fix memory is remove the old wires and replace with new.

A motor is only as fast as the chassis it's in.

On the dampening tape, it especially seems to work well on the F1s... my cars typically work much better with the stuff liberally applied. :)

I've heard similar statements many times before, in reference to winning races.

Usually they have "Chris Radisich" in them.

Ed does make great chassis. I marveled at the rear stops on some of his Can-Am chassis.

This chassis looks like it uses a spring wire on one side running the whole length of the chassis, maybe one should be on the other side?

The chassis also drags in the front, is this suppose to happen or were the tires very soft? Most retro F1 chassis don't touch in the front, or do they?

I gotta make one of these chassis to go along with my Tony P Aeronot chassis.

They sometimes drag in the front on Kings because of the lift from the rear.

Lift? I always thought the rear spoiler caused downforce. I always thought the front touching comes from nose dive and tilt in the corners. A chassis that touches in the corners creates a second point of contact, along with the front wheels, increasing the stability.

Me, too. The body Ed used has a spoiler on the rear that has to create some downforce with the way it's upturned. Unlike the Cooper-Mas. that has no spoiler. Even the Matra MS80 has to have a little downforce due to its minimal spoiler. They can't all be just for show, can they?

Doesn't matter apparently since I know I have one that did it with all those bodies.

Funny thing two weeks ago, Rick Jr. threw his F1 on the track with no body on it, just to try a motor. It went faster with no body on the chassis?

Not surprising. Less weight, lower CG, less aero drag...

Probably because of the less weight and lower CG, two factors that contribute to better handling.

While Retro bodies provide modest downforce the chassis is heavy and the action of the downforce is minimal, but it does exist. Hence the use of Ti22 bodies in Can-Am. Why not Lola T160 bodies? The body of choice in early Retro East racing. Because they have no side dams and they shed air because of that.

There is no GP12, Int15, GP27, or OPEN that would be faster without a body. The chassis are light and the bodies generate nearly 100% of the downforce. So while you check ground clearance in the thousandths and try to gain the last .001 of lap time the very least amount of downforce generated by a body matters even if it's minimal.

Edit: Cheater just beat me with that.

John,

Do you have a part number for the silicone tape from McMaster-Carr? I can't seem to find it in their catalog.

Thanks!

The correct parts numbers are:

93755K21 and 93755K25.

I know since I got them for Ed. LOL.

Then this is the correct McMaster catalog listing.
