Hey Ed, why don't we try Outlaw rules for the flexis?

What a great set of rules. Simple and easy for new racers to set up their cars.

What is your racing schedule going to be and which track will you be using?

I second (or third) the idea of using Ralph's "Outlaw Series" rules for your track. A straightforward easy to follow rule set that I hope some of the Southeast racing groups adopt. That sure would make it easy to travel to other areas and to have a big championship race.

I was wondering what these rules were, I found them:

Maybe the mods should add these to the Rules section.

I love this set of rules. Simple and easy!

I know of a few FL racers interested in outlaw rules. A few track owners are interested as well.

Ed, the place looks absolutely great !  :good:  :good:  :good:

I like the bright color accents.

Three questions....

Why are you 4 hours away?

Do you run the oval clockwise or would I just brake too late at the end of the straight and take out 1/2 the field ... :wacko2:  :sarcastic_hand:

What's Behind the Green door .... :shok:  :laugh2:

It's kind of nice just being a racer again.

Looks like they're essentially the same NASCAR rules as My Series (since 99% of the racers chose the JK Hawk Retro) except you don't have to run front wheels if you don't want to, you can run any body, and you only have to have .050 rear clearance. Correct?

Looks like you still have to keep the front uprights since the only chassis modifications are to open the rear uprights.

Any rear tire.   Now where did I put those Kelly Bulldogs??????

Ha-ha

In PT GA Zorro won NASCAR with Kelly Retros. Should of used Kelly Euros.

Biscuit won GTP on Speed rubber but would have used Wonder rubber if he had time to scuff them.

That rookie Charlie was tied for first after two heats until he broke. He was on JK Wonder rubber.

I appreciate everyone comments in this post, I know its been a while since i have been on SB with all that's been going on so here's a quick update.

The tracks are coming along at the raceway and I would not be where I am at today if it wasn't for the help and great support from everyone that has contributed to date. Thank you all!!

The tri-oval has been up and running for about four weeks now and we had some really close races on it. The drag strip is receiving new braid today and we should have the power supplies and timing system installed by the end of the week to start some practice runs.

The Hillclimb is on track to be completed before the end of the month with its repairs.

Right now our 4" NASCAR class runs a sealed 16D motor and our GTP class allows Retro Hawk motors along with Hawk 7 and sealed S16D motors. Hopefully next year we will host a Florida Outlaw series race using Ralph's rules for all classes. Stay tune for more on this.

You can PM me if you would like to get on our email list from the raceway on weekly updates and also find us on FB under Fast Eddie's Slot Cars & Raceway.

We look forward to seeing some more of the local Florida racers joining in the good times at the raceway in the near future.

It's looking like Ed won't be the only track having an Outlaw Series race.

Stay tuned.

Hi Ed:

Why would you want to use different "local" rules for your weekly classes when there appears to be quite a groundswell in the Southeast towards Ralph Thorne's Outlaw series rules. If you used the same rules for your weekly classes when the Outlaw "Circus" came to town you'd have a built-in group of local racers that would likely run in the Outlaw race.

It's just my opinion (monetary value =$.02) that the if the rules were more consistent from area to area we'd have better turn-outs at most of the races. Not to mention that cars with the 16D class motors are inherently poorer handling than the cars with the FKs due to them having a higher CG. Nothing worse than giving a new racer an inherently poor-handling car.

It should be better. The front end won't point down as much as with the .063 clearance.

Jay...

We did exactly as you suggested in Jacksonville. We used the same classes and rules as My Series for our local classes.

The result was exactly as you predicted. I believe that we had the highest entry count in the series every year for the five years we were open.

One would think that the kind of participation IRRA® has enjoyed through the use of a well-publicized, common rule set for almost eight years would be obvious, yet there are many in organized slot racing who don't seem to see or acknowledge it.

Can someone comment on what supposed benefits are thought to accrue from using a "local", "custom", out-of-the-mainstream rule set in a slot car raceway? The argument that a raceway owner "knows" what his locals want won't cut it, as long evidence says it doesn't work as claimed.

Please, Ed, don't feel I am dumping on you. Other racing racing organization continue to operate in "business as usual" mode, and seem to think the results "this time" will improve.

I doff my hat to anyone opening a raceway operation and will continue to do everything I can to promote and support such efforts.

Guys,

I appreciate the feedback in the previous posts. The reason for our current motor spec for 4" flexi NASCAR using a sealed 16D motor was that it is the same spec that all of the local racers were running previously in the area. Good, bad or indifferent. With that being said, this allowed them to compete in this class without everyone having to replace their motors immediately. However, that's not to say it's not going to change in the future.

The GTP class that we are running allows the racers to run the Retro Hawk motors and will be a simple change of the body to be prepared for the Outlaw 4" flexi NASCAR class so no worries there. I feel that our local racers will be very supportive & competitive in the Outlaw series on either of the tracks when the circus comes to town.

Race News from Fast Eddie's FB page - the 'Fastest Hillclimb in the South' is almost ready!

Hi All!

We hope everyone had a great week and enjoyed the awesome weather we are having here in sunny Florida.
Alright, first up is the drag strip. It is up and running and she is very fast and smooth. Test runs were completed this past week and we had a blast Saturday night running a couple of races down it. John Tingler had the fastest MPH and time while i finished with a run under a second and quick reaction time while literally Warner Bingham drove the wheels off of his 60's Pontiac. We will run Bracket races this Saturday afternoon around 4:30 PM.

Monday's night FCR race turned in yet another fun race. With Clay Fray Jr joining in the action this week.
Corky Craver lead the way with 204 laps followed closely by Mark Kemp 199 and Mike Moock 197.
Next up was Open Wheel Modifieds. Guy Anteniese proved early on that he had the car to beat in this race with 212 laps and left Corky & Gary to battle it out for second place. With the final heat coming to an end it was Gary Johnson costing past Corky Crave for 2nd second place.

Thursday evening brought us our closest 4.6 Break-Out race to date with 1st thru 3 all having 196 laps. Awesome racing and here's how they finished. Warner Bingham 1st, Mike Moock Second and Chris Zimmerman 3rd.

Afterwards we ran the GTP race which was fast & furious on the Tri-oval and everyone ran a really clean race. Chris Zimmerman running a loaner from Warner won with Dylan White 2nd and Corky Craver finishing up the podium.

Friday was time for flexi NASCAR. Jeff Flynn just barely held off fast charging Charlie McCullough that was in town visiting and joined in the fun. John Tingler finished 3rd.
Great racing by all who came out this week and congratulations to all of the winners. You can check out Facebook for more photos of this past week.

Here is our schedule for this week.
Monday: 4.5" FCR Hard Body followed by 4.5" Dirt Late Model.
Tuesday: Closed
Wednesday: Test & Tune. $10.00 all night for track time. Great night to get some test runs in for the drag strip.
Thursday: 4.6 Break-Out race followed by GTP
Friday: 4" Flexi NASCAR followed by 4.5" Scratch Built Hard Body.
Saturday: KIds race 12:30 PM if we get enough participants. 4:30 PM Drag Bracket racing.

Progress was made on the hill climb track and we hope to be running some laps on it by the weekend.

Have a great week all and thanks for your support..

Regards,
Fast Eddie

I have talked to a few raceway owners and many drivers concerning the Outlaw Rule set. The consensus was that the Outlaw rules would destroy My Series.  We have grown a little bit in the last two years, but could always be better. By trashing everything that has been established and go a completely different direction will destroy the series. What we need to do is to cut down to 4 car classes each race day and keep as much continuity as possible.  It is obvious that the three car classes that should continue (w/o any rule changes) according to car count is 4" NASCAR, GT1/LMP, and GTP.  My Series has introduced a new flexi car class recently: JK RTR Indy Cars.  The first race was awesome with 11 entries.  Furthermore, we need to discuss Group F and Group 12.

Also, as proven in Jacksonville, the local raceway will build a strong local racing program by running car classes that are reflected in a state wide series.  No moving target on the rules. When the out-of-towners come into town to race in a state race, the racers and the raceway owner benefit from larger and more competitive fields. A win-win situation which hopefully keeps the raceway doors open.  Us racers need a raceway to go to. Support your local raceway.
