Just received this new chassis and body from Dennis Samson that I will add running gear for an upcoming race in May at SCR.

This will be my first Retro race so we'll see how it goes. The format will be a little different with the Can-Am cars racing on the flat track and the F1s racing on the King.

The Can-Am car has not yet arrived but it should be here soon. I'll be getting two more back-ups initially though I plan to take it slow.

I have one of those chassis and it will work everywhere! Probably the most copied F1 in all of retro and for good reasons.

Yeah....that's the way it always starts. :laugh2:  Then you have nothing but Retro cars in your box.

When you need more slot boxes at home to store your cars than what you bring with you to the track, you know you have hit the excessive threshold.

Dennis - if you need cars for a race, just ask! Glad to send you some to get you racing until yours come in.

Matt what a nice offer. I am looking forward to it and hopefully I can get a handle with the faster speed. I was able to hold my own with the slot.its and Scaceauto and win a number of weekly races but this will be another kettle of fish. Luckily there's a small but dedicated group that races retro here. Nothing as large as the East Coast and SoCal but still a great group of guys.

Rich Clark here is building some great custom slot car boxes here and I hope to get him to build one for me.

Don't forget I already have a boatload of 1/32 scale cars, but as I've always said I just like slot cars period.

My suggestion gear your cars to be a little slower than what is being used and this will make it easier to learn how to race it. When you get good enough to keep it in the slot then gear it up. :) Remember sometimes slower is faster!!

Good suggestion. Also go for smoothness and keeping it in the slot.

Dennis David is not a newbie and he's not driving an unproven car - it's a Dennis Samson.

I say, don't hold back - go for the win :D

My Samson F1 copy seems to like being around 120 grams with the out-of-favor PD motor. I have successfully ran the same chassis with a TSR motor, and it worked well with no lead, or 108 grams.

As others have said, this chassis WORKS! Mine is still faster than I can drive it! :D

Hey my plastic slot is 124 grams. I know lead. For me it's getting used to the speed you can carry into the corners that will need getting used to. Prior to each each I'll need to put my no downforce scale cars to the side. :-(

Thanks guys, and thanks to DD for his patience in waiting for me to get this done. As some know, with the exception of using a lot of Rick's components, I don't use kits a whole lot and each frame I build is a bit different. There are exceptions, but FTMP......each is a one off. This one is a bit of a "purpose" build in that it was made for a specific raceway (Slot Car Raceway in Rohnert Park Ca.) and its conditions, and even for a specific track within that raceway. I really like this nosepiece and the things that it allows me to do, but it is a bit of a PITA to fabricate and thus, I don't use it much (that's why this one looks so different than most others that I've posted pics of).

I think my last day of work for this ski season will be this Sunday, and after that, my time will free up and give me some time to start catching up on a building backlog that has been building up lately.

I always enjoy looking at and reading about the frames you build, Jim. I do use a lot of kit parts for building, starting to move more toward scratchbuilt stuff slowly - but the ideas you present in your builds will generally work on either style of build

Exactly, next I'll want Jim to build me a flat track F1 car for SCR, like to have a stable of 6 cars to play with.

I always loved looking at the brass chassis but did i mention my plan stretches out over a year or how many scale cars i have my eyes set on as well? ;-)

The problem like most everybody is we all want more slot cars than we can afford. LOL I still need to get motors, tires, etc for these cars and put some serious "seat time" between now and May.

Hey Sam stop keeping track of my past statements, you're beginning to sound like my wife. LOL
