Only one piece of tape?
You know one foot long piece of tape with cuts almost all the way across (to allow it to turn around a corner) would be able to completely cover the bottom of the chassis...think of what an advantage that would be.
Please define "vibration tape", would that be like 2 layers of strapping tape?

Vibration tape is that thin red rubber tape often used to damp vibrations.

When I first did vibration dampening it was with duct tape cut to fit on top of steel chassis and brass pans in the Seventies.
I tried to hide it but Bob Morton and Jim Ross noticed it at a Dallas race and that was that.
Point is that writing rules is tricky...so, 2 layers of strapping tape do suffice for dampening, illegal or not?
And why bother with such a rule anyway?...the clearance rule is there; does it really make any difference what kind of tape is under the chassis?
And only one piece? Yuk! Tape is such a high tech tool...the unwashed masses must not be allowed to expend their limited funds on such expenses, I guess, and the complexity of the concept! So hard to grasp.

Racer36, my friend, Donald has the dimensions you are looking for. He measures with his rather LARGE hands.
Jim, not to start a pissing contest. IRRA does not allow this practice. One of the reasons given was the use of lead {lead tape} on the bottom of the chassis. We allowed, what we felt was a fair enforceable rule.

Rules... schmules... racers that seek an advantage will always find a loophole in a rule and the more rules the more problems are created.
There's no need to allow anything attached under a chassis no matter how much better it might make it handle.
Allow tape and you wind up having to define tape.

Thanks again for your unwanted and not needed comments about a race series you have NEVER participated in and never will. Of course like any other of your posts WE must listen because you have deemed yourself THE ALMIGHTY OZ of Slot Racing. I am always amazed that someone 1,500 miles away would wish to impose their will on racers in a series they know nothing about. And yes my car does go faster when I limit pan movement with tape. Dan, at Slotblog everyone has the right to an opinion, even if you don't deem that opinion acceptable or correct. As it says in Slotblog's Terms of Use, "Disagreement is expected as a by-product of discussion, but personal attacks will not be tolerated." This post is a little too close to that line.
If you don't want to hear what Jim or anyone else has to say, don't read their posts.
And yes my car does go faster when I limit pan movement with tape.
So faster is always better in slot racing? As many will know, I certainly don't feel that way.
Speaking for myself only, I believe Penn-Ohio's continuing "personalization" of its rules will in the long term prove to be of questionable benefit overall. Just my opinion...
