Another Pittman F1

It seems Jairus has started a "movement" - here's my attempt at a Pittman-powered F1 that will be at the Convention.
I used the same Du-Bro body that Marcus used, painted on the inside though, as mine was only very slightly yellowed:
I did not even try to keep the transmission molding integral with the body - I cut it off and then later attached it to the back of the 196B frame with some JB Weld:
I tried to make some suspension parts and coil-over units. They came out so nice (IMO) I did not try to paint them, so while they may not be scale-correct, I think they look cool:
For a frame, I also used the front end of an Atlas F1, but I added two brass rods down the side and a piece of .062" brass under the gears for a bit of weight and to have something to hang the rear suspension arms on.
The wheels are some old machined aluminum wheels that Paul Sterrett gave me some time back, apparently made in quantity years back by a company in San Diego, called Horsepower Engineering. Tires at the front are Ortmann 1/32 repros and at the rear I used one Alpha Wonder rubber donut cut in half for the two wheels. I know the inserts are not right, but the Lola spokes were the only inserts I had to fit these wheels, so they will have to do until I can find some correct inserts or a set of Cox wheels. The driver is one of Victor Ferguson's new F1 vacforms.
Hopefully there will be more of these cool cars at the Convention!

Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it to the convention this year...
Dokk volunteered to drive the BRM if I sent it down but... someone wanted it more and so it now resides in a private collection.
Good news is that another Pittman type open motor car is now in the planning stages using a beautiful little vintage NOS Lotus 25 body!

I'm still thrashing on my F1 and it certainly won't look very good compared to yours or Paul's, but it will be fun to race these cars!
The pinion/crown gear combination is difficult to find for us racers who are not familiar with these Pittman style cars. The rear spacing between the axle bushings is very narrow which means we cannot use any current gears since they are too wide. I'm going to use a Slot.it pinion/crown gear setup which is narrower, but still requires some of the hub to be turned down to reduce the gear width.

Larry Shephard posted some photos of a 196B with Slot.it gears somewhere a little while back, so they will fit.I'm going to use a Slot.it pinion/crown gear setup which is narrower, but still requires some of the hub to be turned down to reduce the gear width.
I used a set of Tradeship bevel gears I picked up on eBay a few years back. I see some out there right now, in various ratios.

I even turned down the 196B motor shaft using Larry's technique and it worked fine. Thanks, Larry!
Dennis, did you remove the Pittman axle bushing or are you using a 1/8" axle? Using a 3/32" crown gear and axle presents a challenge in designing a way around the Pittman 1/8" axle bushing.

I did things the easy way - I used a 1/8" axle and the Tradeship gears are already sized for the 3/32" motor shaft.

I've been wanting to do the same with a motor and body a guy gave me last December (see HERE) but I've drifted away from slots for a while. This thread is inspiring. Even though I haven't been actively persuing the build, I've been mulling over where to get semi-scale wheels, tires, inserts, etc., and how I was going to build the suspension members.
This thread is great! Below is a picture of what I hope to build; where can I get such wheel inserts and some semi-scale wheels and tires to match?
Remember, two wrongs don't make a right... but three lefts do! Only you're a block over and a block behind.

Hmm... it would pass NAMRA tech! Jose would be proud!Very pretty Dennis. I like it even though Noose would never let it pass tech. LOL...

Nice job. I like the way you made the Pittman fit without losing much detail. And I prefer the way you formed your rear suspension where it actually attaches to something. Mine just sort of floats out there for now.
I had shocks but couldn't figure out a good place to attach them. R&D Unique makes nice 1/24 coilover shocks for those of us too lazy to construct them. They also have Raydot and Talbolt mirrors, very reasonably priced too, that look good on these old cars. See the Detail Master website.
Can anyone compare and contrast the Pactra Ferrari body vs the Dubro Ferrari 312?

Russell Sheldon will be wagging his finger at me over there in Dubai.
I have a repop of another 1966 312 Ferrari, but I'm not sure whether it is the Pactra or perhaps a Dynamic. It's quite a bit bigger all round.

There isn't enough difference between the Pactra and the Du-Bro to care about. The wider, bigger Lancer doesn't have an exhaust.
I should have a Cooper, a BRM, and a Sharknose, all hardbodies, but not quite finished. Had a airbrush failure and wasted a lot of time rebuilding it. No suspension and details.
