Here are the Can-Am cars raced at Slots of Fun:

C_Beasley_1.jpg

C_Beasley_2.jpg

Jim Beasley. This is a very nice design for a first retro Can-Am chassis, though, as Jim and I discussed toward the end of the day, a few of his joints could use a bit more length. 108.6 grams.

C_Deangelis_1.jpg

C_Deangelis_2.jpg

Nick Deangelis of Williamston, SC, brought the only Warmack chassis raced at Abbeville and did very well with it, capturing second place. 121.9 grams.

C_Durham_1.jpg

C_Durham_2.jpg

Randall Durham, who didn't have much luck with this car though the racers voted it "Most Realistic" at concours. 125.3 grams.

C_Gruggett_1.jpg

C_Gruggett_2.jpg

Robby Gruggett drove this car to a fine third place finish and, yes, he does know he'll need to cut out the front wheel wells before the next SERRA race. 121.1 grams.

C_Guard_1.jpg

C_Guard_2.jpg

Jay Guard's familiar Can-Am chassis has received some extra bracing to stiffen it up, as he has become convinced its erratic handling was due to too much twist. Even though Jay pushed it to first place, he still feels it's just too hard to drive and says he's planning on soldering up a new chassis for the next race. 107.5 grams.

C_Merriman_1.jpg

C_Merriman_2.jpg

James Merriman of Sugar Hill, GA. A very clean design that just lacked a bit of speed. Good to see James (and Ralph) come to race again; they joined us for the first race at Snellville but were MIA until this race. 113.2 grams.

C_Parker_1.jpg

C_Parker_2.jpg

Dan Parker of Lexington, SC. It's pretty clear Dan doesn't plan on having any trouble seeing his car go around the track. A very sano build that brought a nice fourth place finish for Dan. 125.3 grams.

C_Reeder_1.jpg

C_Reeder_2.jpg

Allan Reeder. One of the few two-rail chassis at this event and it deserved better than the low finishing position it reached. Allan had trouble of some sort (gears?) that pushed him well down in the standings. 118.4 grams.

C_Sylvester_1.jpg

C_Sylvester_2.jpg

Richard Sylvester. Another racer who lacked for luck in Abbeville, Richard "enjoyed" one of the few blown motors at this race IIRC. 107.3 grams.

C_Thorne_1.jpg

C_Thorne_2.jpg

Ralph Thorne of Stone Mountain, GA. Voted "Best Appearing" for pretty obvious reasons. I'm glad his young eyes can follow it around the track; mine couldn't... 114.5 grams.

C_Watson_1.jpg

C_Watson_2.jpg

Shane Watson of Moore, SC, who noted on his sign-up that his car has a Don Weaver chassis. Shane was very competitive with this car, missing fourth place by less than two laps. 128.0 grams.

Never forget that first place goes to the racer with the MOST laps, not the racer with the FASTEST lap

Hi Greg,

I just want to thank you for the wonderful 'Slots of Fun' write-up. Just knowing the racers appreciate my efforts means much more to me than any "profit" I might realize.

Thanks again and please come back soon! :)

I just want to say I had an absolute ball.

It was great to meet some of you and put faces with names from here. Jay and Greg did a great job of running a smooth program and ensuring fairness across the board. Don did a great job to accommodate everyone, and I am proud to say I frequent his raceway although I haven't been able to much lately.

I have to add to the list of great reviews for the Warmack kit. I assembled the kit a few days before the race, a very easy build, and did not have time to test so its first track time was race day. I built the kit stock, and with very little tuning the car handled well.

I have to admit I was lucky to fall into second place. I was running a solid fourth and in a heated battle for third with Richard Sylvester. Allan Reeder was running second and hot on Jay's heels for the top spot. Jay and Allan were running away from the field. Both Richard and Allan suffered unfortunate issues which allowed me to cruise in to the podium.

I look forward to racing with you gentlemen again, time permitting, and I must say I am delighted I was able to participate in this program which I can only describe as first class.

I wish my grass was emo so it would cut itself
Nick Deangelis
