11/29/16 - CanAm on the Figure 8

 

 

John Weaver returned to MVH Tuesday night retro-racing action this week plus “new-to-retro” Bob Blanchette gave it a go, as well as eight other of the Tuesday night regulars.  The race was run in the 4/4 format and after 20 heats John had showed us all how it’s done, taking the win by 16 laps.  Not to be outdone, second place finisher Ray Lee bested Ernie Lachance, who claimed the final podium step, by an even bigger margin of 18 laps though John’s average of 55 laps per heat and tire-blistering fast lap time of 3.077 seconds guaranteed him the win.  

 

The closest race of the evening was for 4^th place between Tom Smith, Rich Girvin and Dave Panich.  Tom is usually fast on the Figure 8 and tonight was no different as he put up 398 laps but couldn’t quite catch Rich (with 399 laps) and had to settle for 6^th place.  Rich drove well and had Dave in sight when time ran out, trailing by less than a lap to take 5^th.  Dave was lucky to hang onto the 4^th finishing position. Apparently the “target” that is usually on Ray’s car jumped over to Dave’s, as everyone in the field (including Weaver—twice!) took him out at some point during the evening. 

 

A dozen or so laps back, Dick Griffin, Richard Payne and Bob Blanchette were in another close race, with Dick prevailing over Richard by a lap and newcomer Bob just 3 laps back.  Dan Savage had a rough night with some recurring car problems and even though he posted the 5^th fastest time of the evening, had to settle for 10^th.

NOTE: 

MVH will be closed December 24^th – 26^th, but will have extended hours from 1:00 pm – 9:00 pm on the 27^th though the 30^th and from 1:00 pm – 6:00 pm on New Year’s Eve if you need some extra time to try out the new slot car stuff Santa left under your tree!
