Can-Am on the Sovereign – 3/7/17
MVH Tuesday Retro Racing returned to the Sovereign this week with eleven drivers taking to the track. Racing was on the middle six lanes to have enough marshals to cover the important corners.
Can-Am Cars in Tech:
Dominic Luongo ran a newly designed “Dominator” Can-Am chassis while Peter Lentros entered a virtually identical version and Bob “Woody” Hazelwood drove an older “Dominator” chassis on loan from Dom. The trio, in that order, DOMINATED the field, though Peter and Woody finished just a half a lap apart. They also dominated the fast-lap times with Dom’s 7.304 second effort clocking in over 2/10ths better than second fastest Woody’s. The three cars on the podium were the only cars in the field to post sub 7.6 second laps.
Nick Ball, Ricky Pratt, Dave Panich and Dan Savage were all in a close battle for the “best of the rest” with Dan edging out Dave by just 5 track sections for 4th. 6th place finisher Ricky was a lap back while Nick was a lap behind him. Richard Payne finished in 8th place as he led the rest of the evenly spread out field that included Dick Griffin, Chris C. and Tom Smith.
Finishing order, laps completed, best-lap time and best-lap lane:
1) Dom Luongo 144/0 7.304 PU
2) Peter Lentros 138/31 7.585 PU
