It was good to see you again, Doc, after almost 50 years, and racing shoulder to shoulder.

Just wondering if there is a consensus on "correct" motor break-in. You noted earlier: water, 3.5v for 2.5 minutes followed by 6v for 10 minutes dry. Was this the norm for break-in or were there as many break-in methods as were racers in attendance?
Thanks!

Mark, I did not have time to check in with anyone. We have been running the 7R version in the Florida flexi endurance series. We have about 2 hours to break in the motors; they were hand out motors. We usually drew 3 motors for each race then go to work on them. We have always broke them in in water and then run them dry at 6V. It seems that Matt and I did most things right because we won the last 3 endurance races to win the championship. My recommendation would be to run the motors at 3.5V in water for maybe 30 seconds and check the brushes. Keep running the motors at 30 second intervals until the comm has a full wipe on them. Blow the motor out, removing all water. re-oil. Then run the motors dry at 6V for 15 minutes or long enough to get some carbon build up or track on the comm. Then put it in the car and go race. The motor brushes vary a little in hardness, so it is hard to say exactly how long to break them in in water. That's why I suggested the 30 second intervals in water.

Gil: it was awesome racing with you again; it was a treat for me.
Bill Fulmer, it was great meeting you also. Bill and I used to race with each other at the Schrock's (sp?)slot car track in Canton way back when., like mid to late 60's.
Also, I got a lot of support via text messages and PMs. I want to thank everybody for their support.

doc; thanks for your reports. but more than that, thank you for being positive and not whining and
sniveling about how things were going to be done concerning the hand out procedure. very much
appreciated. good job. sounds like it was well worth it to you to have attended.

My R4/10 saga has come to a close. I got back home today around 3:30 PM. My total miles came to 2,335. Mims to Columbus to Canton to Mims. Man! I am beat. I got a nap in already with my big dog. My wife said that Wolfie would not even go into my bedroom since I was gone. He sure was happy today.
Again I want to say that my first major IRRA event was a great experience for me. And I learned a lot and got a lot of tips and advice from fellow racers. However, it sure was a lot of driving, but it gave me the opportunity to swing by Canton, Ohio and visit family. And, it was awesome photobombing two of Greg's photos. Got to love those spontaneous (that's a big word for a 67-year old, I even remember how to spell it, no spell check needed) moments!
Now its time to switch over and put things together so that I can crush Tony at Holly Hill.
Edit: When I got home today, I checked the temperature. It was 89 degrees in the shade in the backyard and the backyard is heavily shaded. And what its only third week of March! Its gonna be hell outside come May.

I want everybody to know that Cap and Dave both offered me a Can-Am car if I could not get mine going better. Thank you both, you guys are great!
Edit: Also (and I stated this several times before) TonyP, the evil genius, has offered to me one of his cars in our GRRR races, and he loaned me two cars to take up to the R4. You are getting soft, Tony!

I think that I will be alright. Your two-year old Can-Am car will run very well at Holly Hill.
