Ladies and gentlemen,
The recent death of Eric Broadley got me thinking about great racing cars of the past, and there have been many... so what is my all-time favorite?
I hope others here will participate in the thread and state and even explain why we feel that way about a racing car!
My choice after many... many notable considerations is... the McLaren M6A!
I remember how I was totally blown away by how brilliant and dominate this chassis was! And it was so beautiful a racing car decked out in the orange color that would signify the legend that became McLaren Cars!

Nice choice, Tim. I was lucky to see the turbine car run at Riverside Raceway as a kid. My older brother used to take us and we would watch at turn nine.
I would have to chose Dan Gurney's All American race cars. Especially his latest open wheel entries with the Eagle nose. I have one of his jackets.
I live less than a mile from his shop and also remember him visiting John Hale at Santa Ana Raceway.

I was at Indy in '67 when the turbine ran but I only got to see about 16 laps of the race. The rains came and they postponed the race until the next day and we couldn't stay. I was in the infield of turn one.

I have many...
Mclaren M16 Indycar that Mark Donohue won Indy with
Porsche 908
Porsche 917 Can Am car
Most any Shadow
Penske Javelin Trans-Am Car
Lotus 71 JPS
Lotus 23
Lotus 11
Lotus 7
Jaguar C-Type
Group 44 Jaguar IMSA car
There are tons more
But my two all time favorites were the two race cars that I had back in the day
NSU 1000 TTS
Elva Mk III
The picture of the NSU is me at Bridgehampton in 1975. I sold it to a fellow who raced in EMRA who blew the motor shortly there after. It then passed through a few owners. Two years ago I found the car in boxes. It is now being restored to a street car. It was always a race car from new and came in 4th in D sedan in the SCCA Nationals in 1968.
The picture of the Elva is not mine. All pictures of mine were lost in a shop fire.

I'm with Jay on the Porsche, but everyone has made some really good choices.
Now if we're talking pre-war, for me it's gotta be a Bugatti T35, preferably a supercharged T35B:
