Due to the current situation of the JK Retro Hawk motor, the IRRA® BoD has decided:
Only 7Rs motors for all classes at all Premier races after 4/1/18.
No short shaft 7Rs at Premier races.
For regional series, it is recommended:
As of 3/1 only 7Rs in Can-Am.
As of 9/1 only 7Rs in all classes.
The IRRA® will consider reinstating pre-7R Retro Hawks, depending on the performance level of future batches of Retro Hawks and any newly-approved motors.
Due to the continuing uncertainty regarding reliability of the JK Retro Hawk motor, the IRRA® BoD has voted to "unfreeze" the FK section of the IRRA® approved motor list and to accept submissions of similar motors for consideration to be added to the list.
Submitted motors must screw in, fit in existing Retro chassis, and have internal brushes and springs (i.e. same as Retro Hawk, Falcon 7, TSR D3) and must meet the same specs of the Retro Hawk, 65 turns, 30 AWG, 15 degrees timing, oilite bushings, and must deliver a similar level of performance to motors currently on the approved list. Submitted motors must be clearly identified with laser engraving.
Motor will have a maximum retail of $19.95, and be available to a minimum of three slot car distributors, for a maximum price of $8.98.
Four samples of the submitted motor(s) will need to be sent to each of the five IRRA® Board members for inspection and testing. Anyone submitting motors must be ready to supply proof of delivery, including quantities imported, to help the IRRA® establish legality dates.

I'm actually super-surprised about 7Rs in all classes but hey, this is good news.
Some people will not be happy.
Sucks for the people who just spent money on the Retro Rs that were currently selling LOL.

This announcement coinciding on the same day that the OEM runs out of a previously-unknown supply of R motors is strikingly coincidental.
I've said my peace. I'll show up to race whatever the rule set.

Not necessarily.
As noted in the post, if any newly-submitted motors have similar performance, or the 7Rs improve a bit, the pre-7Rs will become legal again.

What a ridiculous statement.
We're in such cahoots with JK, that we opened submissions to other manufacturers.

It makes perfect sense. You buy a Retro chassis kit you make yourself (or pay some one to make it for you) that is slower than an off the shelf chassis, then you spend money for a lots of cheap Chinese motors and pray one will be fast and reliable; what do you find illogical?
I miss the old threads about the cheaters. I guess as we age we discover that cheating for no prize money or internet glory makes little sense.

We had a pretty expensive laser engraver back when I worked at Koford.
I don't remember it having the ability to erase.
Do the $389 units you included a link to now have that feature?

No one knew anything about the JK sale. Stop the crap. We have been dealing with this for a much longer time.
It is what it is. Basically quit if you want to since you won’t be racing for the thousands of dollars you have been or the gold trophies no one cares about.

That will be up to the raceway owners to decide.
In the meantime, Retro racing's biggest event, R4/11, goes on as advertised, with any long shaft Retro Hawk legal in Can-Am and F1.

1-Slower motor now specified - what next?
2-How is it that JK Product's blow-out sale preceded this announcement timing so closely?
To answer #1, if someone comes up with a motor that runs like any of the pre-7R Retro Hawks, or a top 7R, (I equaled the existing Can-Am record at this year's Sano, finishing second to Willy with a 7R) it will most likely be approved.
To answer #2, go see post #6.
To add to that, I haven't had any contact with JK Tim since Jan. 5 and I don't think I've talked to Jerry Kulich this year.
And we didn't open motor submissions for myself, or any other BoD member, to come out with a motor, nor with the thought Jerry had interest in coming out with one.

This style of motor has had very good luck using bushings.
When I tested The Hawk 25 for JK, I was able to run it 232+ hours before a brush and the spring arm holding it wore completely out.
It ran an actual 3,400+ miles, sometimes running 8+ hours, without reoiling.
Why would they need BBs?

Will there a max of how many motors one can buy? For instance for RP I dont see why we couldn't do it. However I think pre motor sales would be a must for ordering proper quanity, if you want 20, you can buy 20, just would have to pre-pay in advance. Just need a little more clarification to talk it over with Doug.
Thank you,

These are sealed, throwaway motors. I'm assuming yours aren't.

Why do you forbid BBs? The price of the motor is already limited by your rules (which I think is very good).
