Special thanks to Jairus Watson locating a TrueScale reproduction Super Bandit body and a superb paint job! Also to Pablo for providing the front decal.

I have my Super Bandit chassis front and center and I am wanting to paint my repop body made by Gene the correct black.
By correct I mean when I was doing my original black Dynamic Mirage save I noticed the blacks I had were brown-ish when in the light hit it a certain way.
I want that blue black in a rattle can if possible. Example below.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Lou, here is a link for that car.http://slotblog.net/...4-dynamic-save/
My intention was to get some help with the Super Bandit paint . It just happens to be the same black.

I have my super Bandit roller done and sitting on the test block.
Question,
If you use the stock front wheels from the standard Bandit it lifts the guide out of the slot.
My conclusion is the Super Bandit had smaller tires.
Request,
Anybody out there got a Super Bandit they can put a caliper on and if possible take a pic of that front wheel and tire?
Thanks for your help.
Trying to get this correct.

Maybe they used a guide spacer?

Jeff I thought of that, and I did do that. You have to add so many that the collar would be higher than the post.
Yes, you could put spacers under the axle blocks too. But I do not think Dynamic did any of that.
The center of axel to the bottom of the frame is .350" so add the ground clearance lets say .06" +.41" double that and you get .820" for the tire diameter.
The standard Bandits wheels are .880" so way to large.

Martin, what is a caliper? Inside joke, because I am such a hack.

"we don't need no stinking calipers", we can eye ball .005''
At least you didn't think I was putting front brakes on the Bandit.

I was going to ask you what kind of calipers you used. I am familiar with the Pinto which is common to so many street rods and customs. 68 and up Camaro is a pretty common conversion, too. .I know a little about those calipers.

I was concerned I would mess this operation up, a slip of the knife or getting the slots in the wrong place. But I am happy with the way it turned out.
Did make a template and modify two blades to make it easier. Really need to make a hand punch for next time

I tried modifying one of those punches they make for scrap booking. You can take the tool apart and grind the male part to the right size, but the female side is then much bigger and you can't get a clean cut. The only solution, I see is to weld up the female side and re cut the slot to tightly fit the now smaller male side. I guess you would do this on a milling machine, Outside of welding the slot shut, the rest is not within my capabilities. They do make a 1/16 round punch that I found could be used to make each end of the slot and then you can cut from one to the other. That leaves a rounded end on the slot, but with a blade cut to the right length as Martin showed, you can get a pretty nice cut. I figure I'll do another 10-20 and be able to get that nice cut!!!

I have one of those slot punches. Mine is 1/8'' by 1/2''.
The slot we want for the Bandits and Renegade is .040'' by .250'' ish.
If there is a need I will make a hand punch?
Posted 13 May 2020 - 02:07 PM
Martin, I doubt if we need a tool. Probably not that many guys slotting those bodies. Using the wide blade like you showed is all you really need and you would have a lot of time in making a tool when you should be working on some of your projects!!!!

Wow Martin, you did a great job cutting the mount holes. I was so stressed about it that I finally punted the job off to Pablo (he too did great job). That motor looks like a real veteran ... can't wait to see the finished car!

Thanks Larry, can you post a link to your Bandit build?
Was yours a Super Bandit and what were the size of your front tires?
Posted 17 May 2020 - 01:27 PM
Mine was just a regular Banding ... here is the link: http://slotblog.net/...of-two-bandits/. Pablo discusses the front tires on page three but to cut to the chase, they too were originally .880 and he cut them down to .815 to give my car a 1/16" ride height. But since the SB has a different front end, those measurements might not apply.
Here is a link from the LASCM website where Philippe mentions the tires on the SB were smaller diameter than those on the original Bandit (http://lascm.com/Slo...roducts_id=6419). Philippe if you're following along, do you happen to know the actual diameter?
