I have always tried to match the motor/axle angle for the gear angles with a combination of pinion and spur angles. The C-can angle is about 16-20 deg and the smaller cobalt motors end around the 2-5 deg range.

What racing series allows a 26 ga armature in a C-can other than bracket drag racing? Any motor can be used as a play toy for the rush of it. Might be a new class: C-can group 7.

At a first glance of the photographs, it appears that the wrong-sized motor has been placed in the chassis, or that the wrong chassis is being used for the motor.  :(

I'm not following any rules, it fits, just need to find the right gear mesh angle. 9/39 is a perfect mesh but ratio wise it is low.

Use the pinion and spur that runs right, THEN put the motor into the frame.  The motor does not always line up perfectly.  I usually use a short bit of brass tubing to bridge the gap from motor to frame in the rear.

Hi Jason,

You were absolutely right! Thank you. That is the right gear ratio and a 16 deg. spur was right also, you have excellent eyes! I re-did it all and now it's obviously right. I did a 16 deg. pinion in 72 pitch and a 9 tooth 5 deg. and it's way way better with the ratio of 6.43 with 7.60's.

Thank you all for your help!

Thank you Jason!  :D  I'm still curious how much angle you can put to have minimal contact patch between the two and get away with it? I guess it's trial and error.  :o
