Ladies and Gentlemen of the Royal THINGIE Kingdom,

I have received some very interesting information about a Mysterious THINGIE Mold!

I have never seen or heard of this particular body shape and have NO idea what it is called or who made it.

I often post threads about mysterios Thingies, but this one takes the cake!

For now the identity of who revealed this mold will remain confidential, but a powerhouse for sure.

It has a wonderful form and I wonder if anyone knows anything about this very secretive and Mysterious Thingie Mold!

Please chime in if you are a person of knowledge or if even you too find it very compelling!

What's the scale/size of the mold, wheel to wheel spacing?

I don't know as I don't have this mold to measure, but I do believe that it is 1/24th scale.

It is an interesting design.  My personal opinion is that it's something Larry Shinoda drew up and somebody else carved.
I can see at least 7 key features to suggest that.

However... it matters not now since the designer and carver have both passed by now.
So... up to us to name it and carry on the legacy by building chassis under it.

To that end, I choose "The Boss".

I'll take one when they are available.  I like the "Boss" but the side "scoops" look a lot the ones on the new GT40.  Maybe call it the "Boss 40".

Mark,

Where or how did you get it? Do you have any additional information to add to this mystery?

Please let us know.

The owner of the mold whose phptos I posted really wants to know.

He is very capable of pulling this body when there is demand for it.

I know where I got every paint brush, pencil and soldering iron.  You are covering for someone... in my humble opinion.

Interesting that there are two molds made that we are aware of.

I see many Chaparral design similarities.

Hi Jairus, some bits I do recall, like a couple of 60s Nova boxart illustrations, but most Ive forgotten, I extend an invite to you to visit if you are ever this way, short of that, Im sure you know someone whos been my guest, sure they will confirm the improbability of me recalling where all this junk came from. Funny you should mention Chapparal, have this one, probably from same maker.

Very interesting mold. I have been thinking it may be one of best designs for a Thingie body.

I own one one these two molds.

Mine had been in storage since the early 1970's. I have contacted everyone that I know of who would know but know one has see it before that includes asking Lloyd Asbury yesterday.

It could be as David suggested to me, a project that was shelved.

I noticed similarities in the flashing portion of the mold (area where extra plastic gets cut and discarded) to that of Russkit molds.

The main thing I noticed that could be the reason it may have been a better door stop is that when you make a body it doesn't come off the mold without distroying the body.

I have a solution but it will require a casting new two piece mold.

I'm excited!

Mark, any chance you could take a picture with the two molds side by side for comparison?

Funny thing is...it's has greater detail than most bodies made for the thingie slot car market.

Maybe it was made to prototype a future exotic supercar that was never made as well.

The rear taillight section detail seems contrary to Shinoda thingie bodies where it is recommended to cut that part out.

I don't see it as a Chaparral at all, but then maybe it was going to be a Chaparral road model, but the driver wind shield would be odd for that purpose.

A great and meaningful discussion though!

I really like the design. IMO too many real car details to be a Larry Shinoda. Intakes, door lines, rear panel vents etc.

Interesting to me are the scoops, just behind the the side windows. They seem to vent out with-in inches. How does that work?. I know its a fantasy car but I would still think about air in and out to cool that rear engine.

A very exciting shape what ever you call it.. I would buy a couple to build a cars under..

Comparing to the two part 2D mold to the "Chapnoda Boss 2.0" I would think hard to remove from mold. Any thoughts from body makers on that?

Victor kind of thought the same thing!

I surmised that it was maybe a Russkit thingie project that got shelved when the late 60's crash happened.
