Wow, I got more TonyP frames in my museum than Dokk!

Raymond, the focus of the museum is the "Classic Era", from 1963 to 1973. So we have not been actively seeking anything made after 1973, but have a substantial number of examples of hand-built or commercially-produced pro-racing cars all the way to 2008.

Most post-1973 pro cars in the museum were donated by former racers/builders. :)

I still have a later generation steel Iso with steel pans here I built up around Bicentennial time. It held some track records at Clementon. Some day I will put a guide tongue back on it and set it up. Needs a ton of cleaning...

#900 was run by Ernie and myself at four different C&C Raceway races.

I think the chassis I used to set the new 40 minute King record was a brother of that one... That was the first race we changed motors in the middle of a main on purpose.

So we all ran it. That was a killer car...

Too bad it is not around. A world record holder I could at least trade to PdL for a complete set of Cox kits...

This one dates back to March '76.

Won the Buzzys Biggie with 507 laps and TQ at 3.94, probably Ernie as I never won a big one there.

Also won the Clementon USRA. 4.23 new TQ record and 540 new lap record. Could have been either of us. I would say me as it was my chassis.

Fred,

Top chassis had the folded-up brass glue shield that was soldered to the axle tube. Glue used to just be dripping off that after a race.

Not to me, I don't have any. But I could sweet-talk Scott into letting go of some nice stuff... better make a BIG pile of them rusty bits! :)

It seems to me that when discussing Tony P's steel (or any other material) cars, you have to include the "Starship"... baddest chassis ever (for me anyway)

I didn't "get it" at all, Fred. I just followed Rick T's amazing copy project and reposted the picture from that thread here. It IS one sexy chassis though (I think a person has a problem when he starts referring to a chassis as ..."sexy", but I just don't care :) )

Hi Flash,

It is the most beautiful... ... as soon as you posted pictures on OWH years ago I knew I had to have one. Tony has the original and I cleaned it up for him. He allowed me to do as close a copy as I could. Here's my copy:

It's a really fun car to hammer on a blue King :D .

Here is a link to its build and the original's cleanup:

Rick,

I had no idea Tony held on to it, now I know I will never get it back! :laugh2: :laugh2:

I remember posting the original design drawing, photos, and your project to replicate it. Both the original and your reproduction are beautiful.

The design I made followed the "Panzer Iso" that Tony made from my concept and after that one we discussed the Starship. I did the full-size drawing (posted below), showed Tony, and he said, "You cut out the center section and put it together (the rear end) and I'll finish it." He wanted skin in the game for this experiment and the center section was a labor of love with the radius inside corners, and a lot of Dremel discs. :D

The motor box was deliberately so tight that the motor could be soldered directly to the frame on two sides, only two gear sizes could be used, again deliberate, and although it was too stiff to handle better than other frames it was a beauty I think beyond compare (IMHO). :) :)

it seems that is the earliest chassis I've seen without the axle tube.

When did pillow blocks first make their appearance?

Fred,

It is a piece of art, there is something about cutting steel by hand that is love.

So you never raced it, only Tony?

I believe it was at the Centerville, OH, Nats in 1983.

Nick,

I don't think this frame ever made it past testing at Buzzy's. I doubt Tony ever raced it after I/we tested it a few weeks with minor modifications. Other developments were happening along with race schedules to spend too much time on an experiment that did not show immediate promise.

Below are photos of it in virgin form.

Fred, I got it from Rick. I thought you gave it to him...

Looks like I have some trading material for that plaque, plus $10,000.00 in unmarked bills. I also have a brand new set of parts to make another Rick gave me...

Did you get the package?
