WOW!!!!!

This month is really flying by.

The next race will be March 2 and we will be racing the following classes

Group F, Ltd (13-37 gear ratio)

Group F open

One motor Box

And if there is enough time and interest we will also run TMO. And hey! if you got a 27L car, bring it along also. These 2 classes will run 3 on and 4 off.. We will allow up to 5 minutes only for the racer changing the motor. All other cars must be back on the track at 4 minutes.

Remember, at the Western States in April, we will be holding you to the 4 off, no mulligans

Raceway opens at 8AM, practice ends at 10AM

TO CLARIFY SOME RULES THAT HAVE BEEN BEING IGNORED:

All classes require you to start and finish with the same body and chassis.

Group F and OMB do not allow you to change the motor.

I have seen on several occasions over the years, racers come back to the track after making one of  these changes and had an affect on the outcome of the race. Usually the innocent victim is someone that is still racing for a spot getting their car wrecked.

Why are you complicating things running 3 on 4 off but 5 off for the guy changing motors? Why not just run 3 on 5 off the whole open race? or since it it says 4 on 4 off for the western states why not run that?

I would think you're only changing a motor for practice with only 3 min. heats.

I guess my thing is why not practice what you are going to race?

Interesting turnout, or lack of it.
Are we advancing the program too fast?
The bulk of guys running are not that interesting in going faster or high tech.
We have changed the motor twice since I started racing a year ago, and every time we have done it, you have to rethink the chassis and body setup.
For guys racing wing cars forever, it is a no brainer, but for the newbie it is a difficult process.

Do this too many times and guys start losing enthusiasm.

There was rain last Saturday which probably kept a few long distance drivers away.  However,as the technology gets better ( faster motors), attendance goes down due to cost and skill level.  The Phoenix motor with restricted gearing is about my limit before I start losing sight of my car during the race due to vision problems.  Just my 2 cents, but I'd keep the Phoenix motor restricted gearing race and let the fast guys vote on another race where they feel they can get the most participation.  Buena Park Raceway is a business and tying up the King track all day for a handful of racers is unrealistic. Ps.  Bill Taylor works hard to be flexible and keep the racers happy.

Doing the same thing over and over again but expecting a different result is craziness! This would lose enthusiasm. Giving an option to move forward or stand still has been given and 90% of us have moved forward. When products take a major dip in quality and price stays the same the only people hurt here is the buyers(racers)! I think we should take a pole on motor loses restricted vs open gearing to see if we are the problem or ?
Moving on to the next big thing unfortunatly is the only way to weed out the issues while taking votes on what's next. Which in my opinion Forest and Bill T. have done a great job with.

I couldnt make it, cause hand foot mouth disease (think chicken pox with a fever) swept through my son's pre-school. He's now finally getting better.

One low turnout and everyone is complaining? There are going to be low turnout races, thats life. Getting rid of restricted or non-restricted is not a good idea. Make the restricted an amateur class and everyone else runs the other classes, we all know who would be considered novice. Maybe some of the novice racers are tired of being beat by Sam and Evan. I have mentioned it to Bill, but keep having the 2 phoenix classes but add one week boxstock, one week TMO, one week 27L, etc.

Mike I dont see any goal posts being moved. Until there is a definite answer from Bill, I wouldnt be too worried.

Great idea its a long day having all these races in one shot but it helps with the marshalling

3 races isnt that long to race as long as you have turn marshals and they start on time. We used to race 9-12 races(3-4 classes, 3 divisions) in one day with SoCal USRA. First race starts at 9 AM and then the next an hour after the end of that and so on.

running cheap chinese motors... you will always have the same issues. it will not change if you run brand x or brand d.

but regardless of what is run, the fast guys know how to get there and the want to be's don't

point is, you don't want to change things up too fast because the novice guys will struggle more (lose interest) than the fast guys.

Retro hawk 4 years (dragged out till they died)
fk 1 year same car as retro hawk
Now phoneix 7 months new setup all together
I think thats is plenty of time to figure out a car.
Especially when people buy fast cars upfront.

well, me for one is done with phoenix cars and will moving on to OMB. since I have a couple setups and a few high time x12 arms.

but for new people, even a Forest build phoenix car at 2 bills is not a easy car to tame.

you need a platform for the newbies to learn without them coming off the top turn every other lap.

the whole idea is to grow the program.

I have seen a few new guys wanting to race, but then they see the laps time they have to archive to be in the game and they never get in the water.

If you have enough new guys, perhaps it's time to hold a "new-guys-only" race. That might sharpen the over-all appeal of the program.

Will there still be a monthly OMO or 2MO race , that would be great if we can continue that.
