The 2019 R4/12 Can-Am Champion is Willy Custer, who led the whole race from the start. Congrats, Willy!

This was simply an incredible race, one of the best slot car races I've seen in decades. Race director Mike McMasters indicated the first three finishers all broke the track record for laps for this class. Also note that Willy set high heat laps for five of the eight stints.

Tomorrow is the final R4/12 class, Formula 1, and unless I miss my bet, it will also be a great Retro slot car race.

The sun was just peeking over the horizon as the Southern crew (Jay Guard, Bobby Robinson, Taylor Davis, and me) pulled into the already mostly full parking lot at Tom Thumb Hobbies. Today is of course the final day at the R4/12, with the Formula 1 class on the agenda.

The number of entries will be down a bit from GT Coupe and Can-Am, as it always is, as a lot of racers don't stick around due to how far they have to drive to get back home so as to be back at work Monday morning. Others bail because they have run low or out of what they adjudge to be good motors. And some simply don't like the open wheel cars. Don't know exactly how may F1 cars will be entered, but best guesstimate is less than 30, perhaps mid-to-high 20s. We'll have the number once tech closes, which won't be long now.

After the busy day yesterday, I'm going through the nearly 300 pictures I've taken and fleshing out some of the earlier posts in this report, so it'll be worthwhile going back over the previous threads in a day or so. There's just too much going on during the even for me to get all he pics posted on a same day basis.

The race format for F1 is the same as yesterday's Can-Am. Racers are divided into two groups for practice, tech, and qualifying, all for the purpose of shortening the time it takes to get through those preliminaries. Top sixteen from the sub-mains will be divided into two Semi-Mains and the top four from each Semi will compete in the Final.

Reads like the beginning of a book. We need suggestions for a title for your book. How about "A weekend at the R4," "The R4, Fact or Fiction," or "Willy or Willy-Not Win Again."  :laugh2:

Anyone have any other suggestions? :)

It is truly amazing how consistent the top three drivers were.

Willy qualified at 4.45 and his lap average for 24 minutes was 4.654. Cap was 4.54 and the race was 4.682 and Ricky Jr. was also 4.54 and the race was 4.712.

I didn't watch the race, did any of the three deslot at all?

I didn't watch all of the race either, Bob, so can't respond to your question.

Supposedly, the live videos will be available on the Tom Thumb Facebook page soon so you will be able to watch them and see for yourself.

With 34 entries, four sub-Mains will be run: two nine-man Mains and two eight-man Mains.

The top sixteen lap totals will advance to two eight-man Semis.

The nine-man D Main is starting in just a few moments...

While waiting for the F1 D Main to finish, I wanted to mention that there are racers from ten states competing here at R4/12.

Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee.

Cap had three deslots at the beginning of the race, he was in green. Not sure about the others.

Thus ends the 2019 R4/12 and a great racing event it was.

I will have a lot more pics to post over the next day or three, but they're running us out of the raceway now so the additional stuff will have to wait.

You really should wish you had been here!
