I remember running my K&B Cobra Coupe slot car on the San Francisco "Playland Model Car Raceway" drag strip, just to see it pop a wheelie!

Here is a website that has some vintage photos of the tracks inside the San Francisco Ocean Beach "Model Car Raceway".

Oh the memories - sigh!

What knocks me out is the sheer size of the Playland Modelcar Raceways facility! Sadly economics these days don't permit slot car rceways of comparable size. But then with retail hurting evrywhere due to online shopping and factories continuing to shut their doors as manufacturing keeps moving overseas, who knows? That may change (though I'm not sure that will be a good thing overall).'

Yep, the death of local retail seems to be pretty general.

What we're getting here (Paris) is a lot of restaurants and trendy boutiques, including many selling chic used clothes! Of course, there's always been huge turnover on that kind of boutique. Lots of medium-sized supermarkets and organic food stores too... But very few hardware stores, locksmiths, shoesmiths, newsstands, etc. And in the last year, about 4 places that do nails have popped up in the neighborhood, plus another 5 or 6 that sell telephone accessories, CBD, etc.

The other huge facility was one opened by Aurora out on Long Island, also with 7 different tracks I think.

Yes Aurora raceway had many tracks on two levels. We raced there in the Long Island Inter Store series a few times. Was very close to their company headquarters in West Hempstead. :)

Does anyone have any good pictures of the insides of that Aurora Long Island Raceway?

There are a few pictures of opening day when Carroll Shelby was there. That seems to the only ones. The tracks had the shape of each one repeated on the ceiling. You can see this in one of the pictures. Also if you look close there are six time sellers and a seventh under the center two. :)

There were a couple more articles on the center, but without the showgirls... MCS and MCT, October and November, 1965. Maybe an Aurora company magazine would have some more shots, but don't have any from that year.
