Does anybody know if it is still around? It has to be the wintergreen scent.
Thanks.

Those side effects are a common sight at most tracks anyways!Yes, oil of wintergreen.
The fumes were so strong, guys would put a bottle of it, from the drug store, in their box, and if didn't have a super tight seal, when they went to slot race a few days, or a week later, their butyrate body would either be cracked, or it would shatter, first time it anything on the track.
If you can't find the Trinity stuff, just slather your body with max strength Ben Gay, for the smell of the '60s.
While guys like Sano Dave loved the nostalgic smell, of stuff like Zip Grip, it makes my eyes water, I request guys not to use it, and sell them a bottle of Sticky Fingers.
Sticky Fingers was created because of the complaints at indoor R/C races, where the increased volume use of it, with bigger cars, was creating a fume issue.
I think the thing that smells in oil of wintergreen, zip grip, Ben Gay, etc., is the methyl salicylate.
Methyl salicylate side effects;
Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur while taking menthol / methyl salicylate topical: Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); skin redness or irritation.

When I was a slot racin' teenager Coppertone sun tan lotion was the thing. I wonder...?

Back in my early days we smoked in the raceway too.
Oil of wintergreen mixed with tobacco smoke was even nastier! I sometimes wonder about the long term health effects from just being present in a raceway. Just lighting up in that atmosphere could have caused a flash fire! I think someone somewhere had a fire from sliming a straightaway with lighter fluid.

As I understand it, methyl salicylate (oil of wintergreen or wintergreen oil), has been linked to migraine headaches in some people. I don't open the Zip Grip when the CEO is in the house. Nope, not even in the basement.

One of the BEST home grown tire conditioners--- Coppertone, %10 oil of wintergreen-- %10 power steering stop leak. Mix together and use for tire conditioning. Coat the tires--let it sit for 10 minutes--wipe it off clean and go race!! Works like a charm--been using it for YEARS!!
