Retro Coupes on the Aristocrat – 9/3/19

 

Nine racers showed up this past week to run retro-Coupes on the American Aristocrat. Racing was in the 4/4 format with four marshals and one person to run the race.

From the start there were three cars in this one with John Weaver setting the pace and Ernie Lachance and Ray Lee in the hunt. At the move to the inside lanes John held a two-lap lead over Ernie and Ray who were tied at 132 each (with Ernie slightly ahead according to the race software). Three laps back, Peter Lentros held a comfortable two-lap lead over Rich Girvin while Richard Payne was pacing the rest of the field with 120 laps. Wayne Secore managed 118 while Tom Smith and Dan Savage were in a dogfight at the back of the back with 115 and 114 laps respectively.

 

The inside lanes on the Aristocrat are shorter and faster which can favor one’s car or one’s driving style over the competition. They clearly favored Weaver as he opened his two-lap first-half lead to just over 10 laps to take the win going away with a 283-lap total. The tie between the “Ernstigator” and Ray continued in the second half with Ernie edging Ray by 3 track sections to take 2^nd place. Peter’s second half continued to be “comfortable” as he finished 3 laps off the podium but 10 laps ahead of Rich G. Richard P took 6^th while Tom had a good second half to pass Wayne and take 7^th by 12 track sections. Dan closed out the field.

 

Weaver’s 4.576 took fast-lap honors with Ray in the runner-up position.
