I've been doing some reading about my Uncle who raced stock cars in Florida and at other tracks in the Southeast back in the mid-50's. He won his biggest race driving a 39 Ford Coupe. I think it would be nice to have 39 Coupe body of some type that I could use to try to replicate his car. I have searched plastic model kit sites and Eagle with no luck yet. Is anyone here aware of a lexan or plastic body of this model? Maybe even something close?

Thank you

AMT 39/40 Ford Coupe, but probably not what you're after.
ebay #274036162193, in case the link doesn't work.

I'm guessing you're after the Buisness Coupe style??

Thank you Steve, the link does work. I will keep that in mind as I am thinking I won't have many options. Below are a couple of pictures I found.

I got a Revell '40 Ford coupe kit about 10 years ago. Headlights & grill may be different than on a '39. Today, I'll check out eBay or one of the specialty vintage car kit houses.

My Revell kit has the same body style as shown in your photos. I think the AMT kit Steve found has the sedan body rather than the coupe, but at one time  AMT made a '40 Ford coupe kit too.

The hood & headlight bucket locations in your photos don't look like a '39 Ford, I'm not sure what they are, they may be from a '38 Ford.

Rich, as Bill suggests, the '40 Ford coupe should be close enough to make Uncle Dick's car out of, seeing as there are quite a few details not required.

I'm no expert on 39/40 Ford Coups, but the main body shape looks pretty close, maybe just the front fenders need sculpting for the headlight detail.

AMT '40 Ford Coupe.

OR, maybe a '37 Ford Coupe.

Your uncle's car looks like a 39 ford standard which had a grille similar to a 38 ford deluxe.

The biggest difference is the grille front gaurds & bonnet from what I can see also the 40 coupe ran Chevron style tail lights while the 39 ran the well known tear drop tail lights Amy's 40 coupe has indents for the chevrons that will disappear with a little filler.

Besides that you can probably cut the bonnet to resemble the 39 standard (39 deluxe had a bonnet & grille closer looking to a 40 ford standard (like on the monogram 40 pick up)but still different from the 40 deluxe the 39 standard has the Bonnet like on your uncle's which has'nt been cut up they had seperate sides.)
& Then the big problem after that is the 40 Ford has the headlights in a different spot to the 39 standard which has them in a similar location to a 37 ford but with a little bit of cutting you can probably make it work.

(Just a note on the 37 ford it has a different roof line to the 39 40 ford coupes)

I don't know much about those type cars, but I know who does and he makes them in clear plastic any thickness you want: airhead

I have this one, don't know what year it is, you can have it cheap if you want it

There's a 1937 Ford 1/32 scale Womp body listed on eBay that looks a lot like what you are looking for.  Here's the link...

Thank you Jeff.

I found that link and it seems it would be just right but numerous attempts to track down how to actually purchase it were unsuccessful.

Thank you so much for all of the good tips.

Seems like I ought to be able to make something work out pretty close.

Slotbaker mentioned a '37 Coupe. He also drove one of those..

Dick Joslin 37 Ford Coupe.jpg

It has been interesting learning more about him. In my reading last night I found out he drove a '57 Dodge hardtop in the first Daytona 500 in 1959.

Lindberg makes a 40 Ford Coupe model kit and it should  easily be adaptable to what you want..   If you watch ebay you should be able to find an old built up model , but it will be easier to just buy a new Lindberg kit.

Pablo is showing a 34 Ford  3 window.

Larry Baisch (Big Donkey Resins) makes a 37 and a 40 Ford coupe body. They are full fendered modifieds.

His photo albums on Fotki were created years ago. I went so far as to register on Fotki to try to make contact but could not track him down.

There is some blog/forum called Racers Reunion that does reference Early Racing Classics. This would be another one I have to register for. I will likely try that later on.

Thank you for taking the time to try to help me track him down. I appreciate it.

Thanks for the links Jeff!

The price is certainly right on this one. I think I will give it a try. This Seller also has a complete '37 Coupe kit that looks nice for less than $15. I will probably snag that one too. If I knew how I would add the link to it like you did.

If anyone is looking for model kits this seller has quite a few and his prices are lower than I usually see.

Steve,

I would be glad to share some pictures once complete. It may take awhile.

I have a lexan body coming that may be close enough and the two hard plastic kits Rotorranch helped me locate. Between the three I may just make it work.

Now if only there were some good body painters on this Forum  :D

I realize this is the '37 Coupe but in a lexan body it is easily the closest option I have found.

Can anyone tell me what chassis they have it sitting on? "FCR style"?

Thanks!
