When I google "FCR slot car chassis" it lists a Parma chassis that appears to no longer be available new. There must be other chassis this body would fit. I am open to your suggestions.
Thank you very much

There are NO kits or molded bodies of a 1939 Standard on the market.
The 1937 fenders won't fit at all or look correct.
I built a 1938 model kit years ago. It took about a year of modeling to do it too!
The good news is that it's possible to do the version you want since it's a a rough and tumble track car probably painted with a paint brush so the rougher and dirtier the more realistic.
Fun project.
As suggested, get that AMT 39-40 business coupe kit. That has all the bits you need to get started. I'll help you as much as I can.
Here is another one yet to be finished showing how the fender and headlights should look. Although, I widened the fenders slightly for bigger tires....

After Church I sketched this out to help you make your Pop's race car. Pretty easy actually.
Hardest part will be building up a support behind and under the hood to look realistic and strong enough to take a wall hit.
Also, you will need to find some thing that looks like full floating hubs for the wheels.
First step is to fill and smooth the 1940 headlight openings.
Use epoxy putty like I show. it takes 12 hours to totally harden but no wall hit will ever dislodge it.
The trim the hood to match the car in the pic.
Follow my directions and have fun!

Rich, the FCR chassis mentioned in that eBay body ad would have had to have been cut in order to fit that body. There have a couple replacements for the more popular 4 1/2" FCR, but I don't know if replacements exist for the 4" FCR. One alternative you could use if you need a 4" chassis, would be to extend & probably narrow a brass Parma womp or the newer LVJ womp.
On PCH -Parts Express, they show a K&G FCR4 knock-off chassis, at $26.00. This would probably have to be narrowed to fit coupe bodies.

Rich, you could PM the seller through eBay & ask him how he gets an FCR chassis to fit this body. Quite often, i've seen other vintage coupe & sedan bodies on FCRs that had the chassis narrowed to fit.

Josh that body looks fine it has a 39 style roof the only thing a little off on it is the grille.
Thanks Tom. I was thinking it looks pretty darn close too.

Jairus,
Thank you for taking the time to lay out the detailed instructions. I appreciate that very much.

Rich - there are two slot car tracks that may be able to hook you up with a ready to run car as per your pictures, if you do not have the skill, time, space, etc yourself.
This would involve having a facebook page however, I would google "paradise slot car raceway Pennsylvania" and "the race place slot car Pennsylvania" and click on the facebook links once you've setup a facebook account. you don't have to become a FB junkie but it has become a good way to find things that may otherwise be out of reach. Also keep in mind that it is the holidays, so tracks may be closed until the 26th or later.
A buddy of mine that is no longer with us got some really neat cars from Paradise...those Penn boys love their dirt modifieds and the cars he picked up were gorgeous.
Do you have a slot car track you would run the car(s) on, either commercial or home-style?

I'm not sure I see why this is hard project to build. The actual race car has no grille or hood sides and the hood is just just strapped down. Looks to me like the Big Donkey 37 can easily be built as a replica of the real car. The chassis is the easiest part. Get a used fcr and cut it to fit the body and cut it to adjust the wheel base if need be. Maybe buy a 1/32 LVJ chassis and set the wheel base and trim the sides to fit the body. Done, the paint looks to be a simple two tone, some Tamiya tape and a few spray cans of lacquer can do this in an evening or two. Don't over think everything.

Rich,
Jeff and Matt mentioned big donkey, if you do a google search for "big donkey resins" the links that pop up should get you to the site. I will speak highly of those guys (Matt has the photo of the car that might fit the bill above) - I picked up one of their Midget slot car body kits and it was fantastic. Just to be clear, however, most of their kits are made for static modeling so it will take some work and creativity to get yourself setup.
Best regards and Merry Christmas!
